Luckily once I got her after the initial inverstment of new hatichi carbs $800 big ones new shocks all around and new plugs wires points and condensor for the initial $1100 dolars or so plus the car 3,000 I have been running an excellent daily driver for a year and could problem run for another year or two for hardly more money but I plan to do more work in the comminng year a brake upgrade some body work and fix some minor electrical work but I could definitely run her as is for two more years with little maintaince except the regular oil change or so !!!!!!!

Love the 240Z and always plan to own one !!!!!!!!!!!

I have to atest to the reliablity of the L-series motor. It's been called the cockroach of the Car world in Wheels Mag (Prominent Australian Car Mag) and made the top 10 engines of all time in 1999.

Basically you can't kill it. Do the oil, coolant, points (even better if their electronic) plugs and leads and she'll last for ever... I've heard stories of these engines continuing to run for a good few km's (or miles even :finger:) in the dirt with no oil pan! I've heard storys of people using the smaller L series engined cars to do jumps and bush bashing and even with no air filter they've kept going!

As for my own experiences, I have managed to kill an L26 engine once ( sucked a stone or two into the back combustion chambers, but we won't go there now :tapemouth ) Other than that the only problem in two years has been two dead batteries and the Zed can hardly be blamed for cheap local batteries LOL They are a great engine, nice and straight forward to work on too.

Even if I had probs with my Zed, the parts are soooooo cheap from the Junk Yard that i really wouldn't worry....

I dropped $600 on new SU's that weren't original. Someone replaced the flat tops at some point.

Other than that I have replaced hoses, plugs, wires, brake pads, shocks, struts, and the like. Remember though, most of the stuff on my car is original. I still had the braided hoses in the engine compartment. They were a little brittle needless to say.

Keep the gas, oil, water, and air clean and she'll treat you right for another 29 years.

A new battery

Change of all fluids

Master cylinder for the clutch as well as the sleeve

New cap rotor as weel as rotor

A new set of points

A new thermostat

And I'l have the engine rebuilt this week.

New set of Falken tires

So I'll say roughly 2500$Cnd (roughly 1800$US)

It's gonna be an expensive year, but the car is running well indeed!!!!:alien:

That is hard to say. The motor is perfect, so it really runs well. 2Many recommended the medium grade gasoline recently and that is what I have been using ever since, because as he said, many places just take the bottom of the barrel grade gas for the inexpensive stuff but if your car isn't really souped up or something the high priced stuff won't do you much good. My main problems are serious rust, suspension, and electrical problems. I will be starting a new job Tuesday with great pay:classic: and I am planning to up the budget on the car from 400 a month to 800 monthly, but that is restoration and stuff not general maintainance. My goal is to have it totally done in 18 months. Wish me luck!!!!!
