Hello,

Have you ever seen this step lamp?I had naver seen this until I have got it today from ebay.I just want to know how many people have ever seen this actually?

I knew it is shown in the parts catalog, but there is no detail description about assembling it.

I found there is a box mark on the back of the interior door panel. Also I found there are 3 holes looks like suitable for the step lamp instalation below door armrest's location.

I will try this and will report when I succeed.

Thank you,

kats

Where the power come from? You obviously will tie into the existing door plunger switches so that the step lamp will only be illuminated when the door is open. However, this will require running at least one new wire (presumably the black lead can be grounded inside the door). My concern is how that new wire will be routed. You'll either need to find or create a hole in the body near the existing switch or run the wire such that it interferes with the weatherstrip. In either case the new wire will need to be of the type that can handle constant bending from opening and closing the doors.

I have them installed in my '73 . Only in the kick panels . there are punch out perforations in the Masonite and the kick panel. The area is pre wired from the factory . The wires I found rolled up with blue tape . EScalon pointed them out to me . He had done this with different lights on his car. The lights you have are the same that I used . They are used also in the Maxima's, on the doors . My Z not being stock I went a step farther and mounted two more in the rear hatch area in the access panels to the tail lights . Non of these lights are real bright really but seem just right for what they are intended for . Gary

I found the power already there from the factory for the the foot well area. If you want to mount lights in the door drill a hole in the door and jamb and use a length of vinyl tubing , like for the windshield washers, to make the bridge between the two and fish your wires in the tube . The same as if you were running speaker wires . Gary

AARRGGHH,

Please dont drill holes. My '73 is also pre-wired in the kick panels. When I was putting her back together, I got a bit confused about the wiring until I spoke to someone that told me that she was just wired for the step lamps and they were not actually installed.

Excellent thread Kats! I found the wiring on my 73 last summer. But only on the right side on the car. Did you guys that found this also find it on the left too?

I made a harness that allowed me to run lights on both sides and am using small white LED lamps that are tucked under the dash by the vent controls.

Each lamp has three LED's that throw light down into the foot well when I open the door. Not factory of course but you can't see them unless you really look.

Kats, thank you for the information on the factory lights and where they mount. The search is on.

Chris A .
