How do you remove the %$#!! Glove Box?

I'm in the middle of trying to replace the heater core and it looks like it will be a heck of a lot easier with the glove box removed, but I can't seem to get it out. Going down hits the blower motor and trying to squeeze it through the glove box opening isn't working either, so HELP!!!

Thanks,

Bob

I don't think you can remove an old one without removing the dashboard. My glove box was originally in rough shape, so I just ripped it out and replaced it with a new one. The new one had to be bent slightly and coerced back in there, but it eventually went in and looks great.

VERY CAREFULLY!

You actually have to squish it to get it out, the whole thing is carefully flexed inward(top to bottom and bottom to top) and cautiously and gently worked out-or snatch the sucker out and buy a new one(MikeW has made a heck of a replica!) He might well have one available!

Bob,

I've had to do this a couple of times, and have found the easiest way was to remove the whole blower assembly. This assembly bolts to the firewall in three or four places, and once these machine screws are removed the whole blower fan and housing just drops out. Be carefull not to bend the cables that control the freshair vent located on the right side of the housing, or simply disconnect it from the vent actuator. You then can remove the glove box out the back side and have ample room to do the heater core. Really not difficult but takes a little time, time well spent.

This explanation is kind of quick and dirty, but once you get into it, it is fairly easy to see what needs to be done.

Hey thanks everybody. I got it out in one piece. I had to take out the whole airbox assembly first and it was still a bit of a squeeze. As far as taking out the heater core. Well, I'm about 5 hours into it and got everything out. I will start putting it all back together tomorrow. If it's your first time, it's goint to take you a while to figure it out. I know I sat there and just looked at what I was doing for 10 to 15 minutes several times to make sure I was going in the right direction.

It's not that complicated, but it is a pain in the a_ _ and more difficult than the service manuals make it sound.

Thanks again,

Bob

Bob C. I did the exact same thing on my '73. Unfortunately, I ended up taking out my z and everything else on the interior through the refresh. I wish I would have taken it out with the dash, but it still was fun. Good luck with the heater core.
