Posted March 12, 200718 yr comment_201978 Well, umm... I have been hearing a lot lately about people doing a rear disc conversion in their 240z with the drums. I am wondering if I should be looking into them myself. Will they give any advantage over the drums? Increase daily driving stopping power? How about when racing? I need to change out my brakes all around here soon, so would it be much more to do this conversion then it would to be to replace both back drums? March 12, 200718 yr comment_201979 Well if you are going to just do a brake job. The rear linings will run you about $35.00 for some good brake lining. If the drums are not scored or worn past the limit measurement. Also if the wheel cylinders are not frozen and are working OK then that is all the cost . OEM wheel cylinders will be about $75.00 each . The last time I checked the aluminum drums were about $75.00 at he parts store. For a Z not used for competition like Auto Cross or on the track. The stock set up is all you need . Other wise the disk conversion would be a wise upgrade. Vented disks in front and disks in the rear . this is not a cheep up grade. Maxima caliper mounts are available from your Nissan dealer, for less than what they are going for on EBay. I believe the dual piston calipers from a Toyota truck and 300zx rotors for the front is what has been found to be the conversion . I am sure others on this site have done this conversion . I have not. I think you should do a search on this as this has been a topic a number of times. If this isn't successful then start a new thread asking for information on the disk conversion specifically . March 16, 200718 yr comment_202576 From your profile I can't determine where you are from but, the fronts are planned to be ex-Commodore vented rotors with matching callipers. These bits go for a song when the factory upgrade a car to HSV specs. The brakes aren't new but they are hardly used when the car is driven from the factory line to the HSV workshop! The rotors (296 x 28mm) have been re-drilled for the 4 x 114.3 PCD and therefore are now "rotor over" as opposed to the stock "rotor under" design. Wheel studs have been replaced with 60mm Nismo items to cope with the additional 10mm thickness of the rotor. The callipers will need re-drilling to match the calliper mounting ears on the stock struts. They are twin piston alloy housings with a cast iron anchor. February 25, 200916 yr comment_275390 You can get the entire rear setup, minus calipers, from Modern Motorsports. This will use the 240sx rear calipers. Silvermine Motors also has a setup for the rear brakes that use the 240sx calipers.The front brakes you can also get from Modern Motorsports and Silvermine. MM only has the 300zx vented setup whereas Silvermine also has the old 4x4 caliper (nonvented) setup as well as the vented setup.MSA is good for some parts, but you can save a bundle by piecing the kit together yourself.
