Posted March 13, 200717 yr comment_202160 Hi guys! Just starting my restoration of a 72, and I'm a little confused as to the carpet / vinyl configuration. My car appears to have the quilted vinyl cover over the trans tunnel, and individual floor "mats" (carpet), one in each footwell / floor pan. Is this accurate? The great news is I pulled the "carpet" and insulation up and the floors are in great shape. AZ car, bought at West Valley in 1971 and has never left the state. March 14, 200717 yr comment_202174 For your 72 it sounds like you have the right configuration. The trans tunnel should have the quilted vinyl you mentioned and the carpet set is made up of two single pieces on the floorboards and a smaller carpet behind the seat. The rear wheel wells, shock towers and leading edge of the rear deck should also be the quilted vinyl and not carpet. I hope this helps. Good luck on the project.
