Hey... is this the same Arne that was telling me that the Silver Pig in Texas, with Lip Stick - WAS worth $15K - - and how your saying that a Series I car with 39K original miles isn't worth $15K???

Someone has now bid that Silver 71 up to $10,101.00 - if that car is worth $10K - then the Series I car is worth $18K AT or no AT... even with a few dents in the floor.. heck - a crack free Series I dash alone is worth a grand..

Time for a Florida Vacation Arne... come on down!

You know, Carl, I'm not afraid to say that my concepts of 240Z value have been scrambled recently, due in large part to the rash of value and collector type discussions going on here lately. And I'll also admit to being a bit naive about 240Z values outside the Pacific NW. So my pronouncements on that particular silver car may have been not so good. Your advice was better.

But in the case of this gold car - it's very similar to what my yellow car was when it was original so I'm familiar with what it should be. It's being offered for sale 110 miles North of me, so I'm familiar with the local market. And I know what a low miles, original car is really like (thanks to my red car) and what it will still need to make it really ready to drive. Add this all up, and I'm comfortable on this one - I personally would not pay $10k for it. Obviously, someone else is willing. I hope they are happy with it if they win...

Interesting. I knew that the harness and distributor and even the alternator I think were different but did not realize that there were more "permanent" unibody differences. Thanks for the info. My first zcar was a 72 automatic.

Carl, I just reviewed what I wrote about that silver car in the other thread. And maybe I didn't express myself well. But what I meant to say was that I don't think the silver car is worth $15k either. But I don't think that will stop other people from bidding it up. It really wouldn't surprise me if it got close to $15, even with it's shortcomings. And it won't surprise me too much if this gold car meets reserve either, which is probably around $14k, judging from this ad.

Yeah, I figured there was a bit of tongue in that cheek. But I did want to make sure I didn't mis-speak TOO badly on this.

And yes, the red 240Z was at the right price. The yellow one? Umm... not so much. I generally have to learn from my own mistakes. Luckily, I can afford them. But I'd like to help keep others from making the same ones I did.

Hell for $8K I would sell my 73 AT 105K mile car with crack free dash car with matching #s, which is very similar in condition to this Seris I car. Instead of mine being a low # car it is a high # car 7/73 production. Got to shine her up and get in the classified section of this board. I do not think I will use Ebay in the selling of the car.

I have been watching the car, I agree with Arne, the automatic is a minus with me. If the car is as advertised it would be a nice car to restore. I am still thinking about making an offer. I have also been watching the silver 71 with 78k miles in AZ listed on ebay. It may be able to be bought right and would also make a nice restore. Is there anyone in the area that has seen the car or would be willing to take a look? Thanks Jerry

I bid on the above car and was high bidder but did not meet reserve.:( All in all I believe my bid price was about right for this car, but who knows! Having my 72 in the shop for restoration, I am not an overly motivated bidder.

I meant to say that by "give away" there is nothing in the VIN, as a Ford that would give away that it was originally an automatic. Thanks for the clarification.
Very true. No indicator in the VIN until they went to the 17 digit VINs in 1981 or so.
