Posted March 16, 200718 yr comment_202573 I have given this much thought and ultimately, I have reached an important decision. Being a fellow car enthusiast, I fully understand the value of a rare piece. Through my 16 years of owning and driving Z’s, I have become quite familiar with their lineage- including a fair amount of technical knowledge. Overall, I have owned a 240(‘72), two’78s, and two ZXs. Brief history: My current Z is somewhat of a rare example (BPE). Although it obviously has seen far better days, the Z is a solid Southern- California car. The rust is limited to what I feel to be “design issues†i.e. the dog legs, lower fenders, etc. Initially, I purchased this Z in Feb’95 with a bad engine. The body was straight and the car was complete. After replacing the engine, I drove the car 82 miles to my rental property and the Z was put in the garage. It has been there ever since . The dilemma: When I bought this Z, I had no idea that there was such thing as a BPE 280Z. I was only familiar with the ZZZAP 280s my old neighbor owned. My intentions were to convert this car into a 280ZT using a spare motor from my ‘81ZXT, Install 240Z bumpers, lower it, and paint it pewter. Now that I am aware of the rarity of this car, I am having trouble convincing myself to alter its appearance. I wanted to use a 280 chassis for my project because of its structural improvements, but these changes would definitely decrease the value and integrity. The decision Like most everybody here, I also know the few differences between the BPE and a “run of the mill†280. Originally, my Z had the SAP, with both mirrors, louvers, stripes, quartz clock, etc. Ultimately, I have decided to make an honest attempt at selling this car. This gives someone (who wants a Black Pearl) an opportunity to own one at a fair price. I have placed an ad in the classifieds here and hybridz with the hopes that someone will find their dream BPE project. Please note that I have had offers from people who wanted to purchase the Z to perform an engine swap, but I turned them down. Again, the only reason this car is for sale is to keep it “stockâ€. The ad will run for a few weeks. If it does not sell, then I will keep it and continue with my plans . Please understand that I am a Z purist and I do not want to come off as arrogant. This forum is a positive environment and I truly enjoy and honor being a member. I feel this situation is a win/ win for me. If the car sells, I will buy my aunt’s Series 1 240Z (10/70) orange, orig hubcaps, and only 88k mi. She is the original owner and I have memories of riding in that car as a kid:). That car WILL remain orig. Thanks for reading my long post- any and all criticism always welcome. Matt.
