how much did you pay for you're Z?

$2,500. two months ago w/110k original miles, VERY nice overall. Could use a couple hundred dollars minor rust repair. But i'm very happy with the car and the purchase price........... tomwas This is my 15 ZX from 79-89

$1350. I think it was just about right. Really, i think I got lucky. I just got the first one I found. Of coarse its needed a lot of work, but its been my daily driver since I got it (for the most part) I'd do it again in a hearbeat.

I paid $2800 for her in Oct. of 02'

Since then, I've put a couple thousand dollars worth of items into it and easily put 10 to 15 grand worth of labor into it. And of coarse, I'm one of the only 2 people that work on it. Johnny (JZM) is the only other person that touches her (Mechanically) and lives.

I figure if I were to sell her, (Like that would ever happen while I still breath air) I would'nt let her go for anything less than $15,000.

She's now 99% rust free, no dents, fresh paint, new PPG front window with NOS rubber seal (still in the original bag), original--unmolested engine block, E-88 head with rebuilt carbs, MSD 6A, Mallory Unilite distributor and tach adaptor, power windows, power door locks, 4-speaker stereo with 12" hidden sub and amp, new 4 channel amp for the mids and tweeds, Pioneer AM/FM/CD with XM satelite radio. Both of my upgrade harness's and it'll have a ZX alternator before the week is out.

Urethane bushings everywhere, KYB struts and Eibach Progressive Rate lowereing springs, Front and rear sway bars (23mm in front and 19mm in rear) 4-piston Toyota Calipers in front, 225/50R16's on 16" X 7.5" Eagle Alloys, Xenon ABS front air dam, H4 Headlights, Kats upper and lower driving/fog lights, LED tail lights-side markers-dash lights-map light and dome light, Full alarm system with 2 sirens in the engine bay, Cowl induction hood (all steel) and inverted hatch lock so I could remove the lock assembly and smooth out the hatch. Which also lets me "POP" the hatch vis my alarm remote or use the dash button that I installed.

Maybe I should say $20,000 and not a penny less. Some of you you will say "Ya right Dave, In your dreams" and to that I say "You're dreaming if you think I'd let her go for anything less"

But thats just me, NEXT!!

Mine cost me all of $1, (basically free as it was my Uncles), but it was most expensive free thing ever. I took the money I saved for second car and put it into my Z. Went over budget with "while I am at it" and "for a little more I can have it right the first time". Like Z-Onthebrain I also put in a crap load of labor time.

I made the choice one day to take that stack of receipts of everything from injectors, to paint to beer to help pay for friends to help. Total is just a shade over 6,000 USD. About double what I wanted to spend, but I have a great, solid ready to rock car. Oh there are still things to do, but they can all come with time.

If you start to add up all the things my Uncle did to the car, Full rebuild of the engine, mechanical work, etc. the numbers would make ones head spin. These are defiantly not cheap toys, but we only live once and we aren't taking the money with us when we are 6 feet under!

$1,500, plus the trade in amount of $2,000 for my stock(!) '92accord=$3,500

I wasn't a member of this site, and didn't know exactly where to look, or the cost/process of fixing certain things-if I had known these things, I would have offered just the $1,500 cash-and nothing more.

So, legendz, you are doing it correctly-get your ducks in a row, be patient, and go prepared. Think of it this way-you are not going to buy the z, you are going to interview the z-if that makes any sense...:stupid:

LegendZ , I paid:laugh: $500.00 in 2000 . I was able to drive her home. I did the safety items like brakes and tires , then drove her for about 2 years. Then I spent the better part of 3 years in the refresh. With much help from my friend EScanlon. Things have changed in the Z market since then, greatly. My Z was in need of a new floor on one side and the roof was dented badly as well as the rest of the car was in need of body work. She was all in primer and I live in the wet NW . Fortunately for me the primer was over paint, so the rust under the primer was vary minimal. Today the same Z would sell for 1K maybe 1500 . It is difficult to judge from what we all have paid . Your location is going to dictate the cost greatly and as time goes on look for the cost to increase weekly actually. I don't think you can count the labor in figuring the value of your Z. Saving one of these cars must be a labor of love of the car. She now has a 82ZX engine, R-200 diff, New paint and updated wiring for H-4s and on and on . In order to keep costs down, and because I wanted to do the work my self. This is one of the reasons I bought her in the first place. I was able to save a bunch on money doing this. Otherwise I wouldn't have the Z I do today. I had to learn how to do body work , and how to properly detail and prep for paint. This is a large area of cost. To find a turn key car that you can buy and take out and auto cross will be in the 6K+ area I would guess. Gary

My first '71 240Z I paid $1500 for late in 2005. Needed (still needs) a bit of rust repair, and had what I thought was a good L28 in it. (I was wrong about the L28 being good though.) Probably paid a bit too much for it, considering both the rust and the worn engine.

Second was another '71 parts car I bought mostly for the engine, which is now in the first one. I bought it cheap, but as a parts car I figure that's not what you are looking for data on.

Third '71 240z had less than 60,000 miles on it, and is 98% stock and original. It is a great driver as is. I've started slowly refreshing it, keeping it very close to stock. I paid $7500 for it last fall.
