$800 for the car, and a spare 280zx engine with five speed transmission. there were many other things like bushings

and shocks that came in three huge bins, but the guy also included a $400 wiring kit from Ron Francis, so i think i got

my moneys worth, even if it did take a year to wire the car up with that kit :) .

$500 for the actual car in 1987. It had a blown engine due to a frozen block. I spent about $2k and I drove it through college. In 1996 I started sandblasting and removing parts..... After approximately $18k in various parts, labor, and other things, the car is 99% finished. All-in-all, I have about $20-$21k into this car over the past 20 years.

welp.....just wanted to poke in on this real quick. i got to wondering what ive put into it. added up all the recipts in the pile including the 1$ i paid for it. (mind you, it did not run when i got it.) $1675. I need to redo the front end , the u-joints and get new tires, and track down a mystery short in the electrical system this summer before I feel "safe" in it. then it will be time to dive into the rust issues. so it adds up real fast. good luck and drive safe!:classic:

Lets see first 1971 $1,000 (1994). Took it apart spent $3,000 rebuilding, powder coating suspension/ all kinds of upgrades along with rebuilding engine. Kids came along 94 and 98. Car on hold. Single again Jan 2006. Feb 2006 got 1970 in NY $2500. Removed and replaced all parts from the 1971 put them on the 70 and sold first one for $1,900 (this month). $5000 to paint and body work. Lots of other costs. I figure some were around $10,000 - $15,000 when all is said an done. My big question like you might have--- Why? I Love the Z's and have you tried to work on the new sport cars today? Remember It's just money and you can't take it with you when you go.

$8500 plus an airline ticket to get to my 240Z. After the upgrades its more around $13-14k. It's a very nice car for what it is being 36 years old. One day I'll tear her down for a proper paint job. All in all, it's a expensive toy but far less than a new car payment for 5 or 6 years!

I spend 2300 4 months ago. the car has 1 external rust spot by the windshield. Had brand new Goodyear Eagle ResponsEdge 225/50R-17 94V VSB on her, along with the 17in rims. Had a new brake upgrade, and everything that you see on her!

  1. 78 280z - Free. Spent $1500 on rebuilding the suspension, brakes, drivetrain, etc. Too bad I never realized the hidden rust until the Bondo started falling out in chunks. Will be dumping another $2000 in body parts and paint into it.
  2. 75 280z 2+2. Free. Parted out due to rusted out floors and firewall. Engine used for car below.
  3. 76 280z - $500. Moderate rust in floors and lower quarter panels. Burned up crank.
  4. 78 280z - $6000. Paid at least $1500 too much for a 99% rust-free car with a rebuilt engine, new paint and seals. Just got tired of waiting to have time to repair the rust on the other cars.

I paid what I think is too much.. 5000 for a straight rust free car........ needs alot of interior and paint... . but it was just what I am looking for. And clean Zs are hard to come by in Canada...especially Ontario.. where the roads are made of salt.

well my first z was a 260z and i paid $237.00 for it. it had all the orginal documents showing how much money was put into it.....over 10 grand. the second one that i now own i traded one of the new jvc hard drive camcorders for. it too has a lot of the orignal paper work and is in cherry condition.

I paid $2500 last month for a low (80K) mile '74 260Z 2+2 Auto with a fading repaint, but a super straight body with only very minor surface rust, a super clean interior (one minor dash crack and one seat cushion needing repair), nice factory Z-Mags, good rubber, and all the accessories work including the A/C.

Drove it home to Tampa from Alabama.

I spent almost $500 more in the last month for SU carbs, a used differential, fluids & filters, gaskets and miscellaneous crap.

According to the spreadsheet I've worked up, I've got about a $8K more I need (OK, want!) to put in it down the road:

about $2500 in engine/driveline/exhaust, $1300 in Chassis/Suspension, $700 or so for new seat vinyl, carpet and rubber seals, about $3500 in paint, body, wheels & tires. Includes only parts & materials, no labor.

That's all. Of course, that's assuming nothing else breaks in the interim (yeah, right!).
