Diseazd Posted March 24, 2007 Share #1 Posted March 24, 2007 Hello,I am new to the forum. I am 27 and my pops and I are working on a few Z's. He owns them all, but I do all the paint and mods and help with everything else. He has a 71 240z that he just purchased yesterday. I saw the car in someones yard 14 years ago and we have been trying to buy it ever since. It has been parked since 79 and still has the 79 inspection sticker. Oddly enough, as we found the title in the glove box..... The last owner purchased the car 3/22/74. We git it 3/22/74 33 years later to the day and 14 years since we started trying (although not to the day)It is almost perfect with 70k original miles. Practically untouched. His other car is a 72 lime green. Lowered with Eibach springs, Tokico shocks. 16" panasports, BRE front spoiler. We pulled the motor and rebuilt it with slight bore, new pistons, rings, bearings, new carbs, machined head, new valve springs, seats, ceramic coated manifolds etc. Followed up by 2 300zx's 1 non-turbo and one twin turbo. Less than 100k each and like new. Here are some pics of his cars and my E34 BMW<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/431883160/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/174/431883160_abef4c0885_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="100_0394_4" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/431883152/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/162/431883152_adf1470cf5_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="100_0379" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/431883147/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/158/431883147_94eba1548e_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="100_0374" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/431882327/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/185/431882327_d7ecbcc729_o.jpg" width="640" height="390" alt="100_0315" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/431882317/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/178/431882317_06d91bd71b_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="100_0251" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/431882321/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/146/431882321_e33bcd2525_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="100_0253" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/431884072/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/167/431884072_62239a9041_o.jpg" width="639" height="368" alt="IMG_0457" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/431884069/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/156/431884069_3370b57fc4_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="IMG_0455" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/431884066/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/182/431884066_b7e0e83d9e_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="DSC02772" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/431882333/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/157/431882333_11f12f0e4f_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="100_0324" /></a>

EScanlon Posted March 24, 2007 Share #5 Posted March 24, 2007 Oh Boy are you going to get grief from some of us old timers.First off, there ain't no such thing as a Butterscotch Z.The color is GOLD, Safari Gold is another name for it, but GOLD it is. Color code 920.Second, there used to be another member here with the screen name 2ManyZs that is, the exact same name but WITHOUT an apostrophe at the end. Due to many things, he hasn't posted in a while, but he is still a friend to many of us.Here's a link to his profile:http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/member.php?u=1499So, not trying to rain on your parade, and hoping you can see why this might just rub people wrong.FWIWE
Go240Zags Posted March 24, 2007 Share #6 Posted March 24, 2007 Welcome 2manyZ'x that's a familiar handle you got there. Nice Zs - very clean. Gary DEdit: E, you beat me to the punch - altho you expanded on what I was thinking.
geezer Posted March 24, 2007 Share #7 Posted March 24, 2007 Welcome Guy - Nice cars. Interesting story on the 71 also. Here's a suggestion. Ask Mike to change your user name to ButterscotchZ. Then tell your dad he can't possibly paint the car silver :classic: PS-Maybe ButterscotchZ is taken too?
Ricklandia Posted March 24, 2007 Share #8 Posted March 24, 2007 When you find a "mature" car like that, in such good condition, why on earth would you want to change the paint color??? She's a survivor - not only does that make her worth MORE, but it also adds some charactor to the car. Tell Pops if he really wants a silver one, go out and find one that needs rescuing, save one from the scrapper instead of ruining one that is perfectly fine as she is. :stupid:
Ken Posted March 24, 2007 Share #9 Posted March 24, 2007 2ManyZs (Keith) is a good friend to a great number of members of this club. He provided a great wealth of information, suggestions and encouragement to many members. His knowledge of the 240z is legendary and I am proud to call him a good friend of mine. He is missed by many on this forum.......Ken
Ramses Posted March 24, 2007 Share #10 Posted March 24, 2007 I agree with everyone here. Don't paint a perfectly good original paint job. Tell your dad that it will decrease the value of the car, if he ever decides to sell her in the future. If you really want a silver Z, find one that needs work and paint and everything and make it a project car. I spent $750.00 on my car over 5 yrs ago when I purchased it. I have well over 10 times that now into her, but I would not change the experience for the world.Good luck and welcome to the forums.
sblake01 Posted March 24, 2007 Share #11 Posted March 24, 2007 Actually, Keith's user name originally had the apostrophe but it caused some kind of problem in the chat room or something like that so he dropped it. He still posts on HybridZ. I don't think I've 'seen' him here in over two years. But, back to the present. Welcome 2ManyZ's (the new one). Impressive collection of automobiles! I'm also on the 'don't change the color' bandwagon. That color is part of the uniqueness of the era.
nwcubsman Posted March 24, 2007 Share #12 Posted March 24, 2007 Take a look at Escanlon's gallery. He has a very nice example of a butterscotch, er, 920 Gold Z.
