Carl Beck Posted March 24, 2007 Share #13 Posted March 24, 2007 HI Keith:Silver is one of my favorite colors on the 240-Z. It highlights the beautiful lines of car. If you and your Father are going to do a full color change - and a full "refresh" or even a full "restoration" on the Z - I'd paint it any of the original colors you want. While many have a point about retaining the Gold car in it's current "original" condition - I'm betting that upon close physical inspection, the original paint isn't all that great today... and it's really is time to replace it.Your Fathers Yellow 240-Z looks great...Good luck,Carl
Diseazd Posted April 8, 2007 Author Share #14 Posted April 8, 2007 Updated pics of the restorationWe cleaned up the bottom after removing the rear assembly. Sand blasted all the suspension and drivetrain and painted them black with Urethane and some flatener to get a semi gloss finish. We then painted the floor boards and under carriage an army green to resemble the color of the factory rust prevention. Also Urethane.New Eiback springs and Tokico adjustables as well as all the rear assembly with new bolts will be reinstalled this week.<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/451279958/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/228/451279958_80a3e4bc9e_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="IMG_1122" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/451279962/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/219/451279962_110edbfbe8_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="IMG_1189" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/451279970/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/236/451279970_46a15a1b1a_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="IMG_1191" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/451279986/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/209/451279986_01c90396a6_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="IMG_1221" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/451279988/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/176/451279988_1c3f185138_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="IMG_1222" /></a>

Diseazd Posted April 9, 2007 Author Share #17 Posted April 9, 2007 Thanks.BTW, we are working on getting the Username to Diseazd. Waiting on moderator approval. The car will be silver, but will be painted right, removing all the interior except the dash. The car will never be sold, so original color won't be an issue. This 71 will be lowered an inch, and upgraded with 4 piston discs in the front and a disc conversion for the back in the future as well as sway bars.Any suggestion as far as bushings. My pops got all Urethane. We don't want it to be too stiff. The adjustabel shocks will be set on soft. 5 speed, and possibly power steering upgrades are planned as well. For the exterior, there will be 16" panasports like the green car and the sating grey BRE front spoiler to match the rear tailingt panel and front grill.Full engine rebuild with triple carbs and a mild cam. Ron Carter Posted April 9, 2007 Share #19 Posted April 9, 2007 At the end of the day it is YOUR and it is your choice to do with it as you will. It is a nice car and will make a good driver with the attention you are applying to it. Silver or otherwise.I always called the "gold" #920 color, baby sh:tapemoutht yellow for obvious reasons. Silver looks great. while your at it, a red interior would be great in a silver car.Nice collection of cars keep up the good work. Now all you need is a Datsun Z race car!!R

xray Posted April 12, 2007 Share #21 Posted April 12, 2007 Just an update, The rear subframe/suspension has started going back in. We are pulling everything in the engine bay/ crossmember and front suspension this weekend and will be updating pics. Does anyone know of a source for new metal brake lines for the bay?I've been looking around (and asking) for suitable replacements for awhile. My only contact at Nissan can't get any. Classic Tube offers brake line sets around $200 for standard steel, slightly more for stainless. They have fuel supply/return and clutch lines, but they are individually a bit pricey. The stock lines were yellow chromate-type plating, and I haven't been able to find those.http://www.classictube.com/index.aspMaybe someone has a lead on some NOS ones they'll share with us!Steve
