Posted March 24, 200717 yr comment_203471 In the 1974 260Z service manual (BE-33) tach circuit diagram there is an 'in line' resistor drawn.Where is this resistor located? The service manual isn't clear about this. Thanks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/23710-tach-resistor/ Share on other sites
March 24, 200717 yr comment_203480 Just had a look at a wire harness from a 74 260 ,should find what looks like an in line fuse holder taped ,single blue wire in and out.Check in the passenger side between the fuseblock and firewall grommet in the harness going to the engine compartment Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/23710-tach-resistor/#findComment-203480 Share on other sites

March 24, 200717 yr comment_203484 Don't have the 260 diagram, but if it's connected to the Black / White wire coming from the coil, then it may be the resistor that's by the coil to drop the voltage at the points once the car is running. If you trace the wiring to it on the diagram, the resistor is bypassed while the starter is engaged, and current then flows through it once the car has started and the ignition switch is in the RUN mode.Hope this helpsEnrique Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/23710-tach-resistor/#findComment-203484 Share on other sites
March 24, 200717 yr Author comment_203486 It is in the blue wire from the coil to the tach. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/23710-tach-resistor/#findComment-203486 Share on other sites
March 24, 200717 yr comment_203488 The FSM shows a resister in the blue wire from the tach to the coil negative .It,s a single pigtail wire male-female connection where the harness passes through the firewall.Resistance checks @ 2.17k ohms Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/23710-tach-resistor/#findComment-203488 Share on other sites
