I'm getting close to having to pick out an exhaust system for my 240z and would like to hear some real life examples. I know what I want it to sound like but have no idea how to make it happen. I have read several existing threads and even listened to the sound files I've found, but I'd like to take advantage of the real life rumble.

My Z has what I expect is a stock ('75-'78) 280z N/A motor with SU's and a new MSA 3-2 Coated Header. Although I will listen to a V8 Z, I doubt I will convert mine over. Just can't bring myself to do it to a '70.

I'm going, but I am not sure if I will take my Z, I would feel pretty dang embarrassed being next to all those perfect rust-less Z's(for the most part).

My car is too ugly outside right now. My car originally from Oregon has some rust on the fenders, floor pans, and hatch area. What do you guys think, should I take her?

flowmaster with 2.25 exhaust piping. did you put a resonator in or straight back to the muffler? if no resonator, do you get the 2500rpm 'drone'?

how does the exhaust note change when she warms up, (quieter, throatier, louder, higher pitched)?

I am running a 2 1/2 '' Dyno-max turbo with no resonator. At idle is has a low rumble and sounds like a v-8 actually . But when I get on it , to me it sounds like a E-type Jag. She is Lauder than I like and I plan on installing a Thrush for a resonator. With the color of my Z she attracts enough attention so toning down a little will be a good move. At present I do have a drone sound from about 2K to 2500 when under load. Not bad but on a long trip it could be tiring. If I make the run to the Nationals I think the resonator will go in before. With headers and the large exhaust plumbing they most all have the drone to contend with . The resonator does help allot to eliminate it . Gary:knockedou

No resonator, no pre-muffler. Just straight back to the muffler. I get a little drone at 2k, but it mellows out very nicely below that and above. When it warms up, it gets a bit deeper and quieter. Its very nice for cruzing, but when you tap the gas it fires back up and gives a little rumble. I'm gonna do my best to get a fresh recording (this was made with my laptop's built in microphone) and I'll try and post that sometime.

I've got a Turbo muffler on my 280, great mufflers and have a nice sound to them too.

Here's all I can give ya. New 2 1/2" exhaust, turbo muffler from Raptor, MSA 6 into 1 ceramic coated header. Stage 2 cam, (480/280) Dual S.U.'s, MSD 6A, Mallory Unilite Optical distributor.

I had just uploaded the videos so they may not be available at first.

But there are some others on there with my exhaust. It does sound a little differnet that what you'll hear on youtube because that was a year ago and the sute has built up and mellowed it out a little. But it still sounds damn nice.

Okay here we go. I got some better recordings of my exhaust today than what you will find in my little video. I have one that was recorded beside the car about where the drivers side door is. Another recorded about 8 feet behind the car, and the last is a recording from inside the car. Halfway through the indoor one I put the window down. I couldn't figure out a way to attach MP3 files, assuming we even can. If there is a way to do that, if someone would let me know i could post these.
