Ed Posted March 29, 2007 Share #13 Posted March 29, 2007 What's up with all the oil spray on the front crossmember and steering rack?
Stickerman Posted March 29, 2007 Share #14 Posted March 29, 2007 Can anyone point me to a thread where there is a car for sale and no one tears it apart?Every thread I see always has people picking the cars apart, are yours all perfect? To me this looks like a very nice car, not perfect, but nice.I was at a Z show one time and a guy started picking apart the chrome on my 64 1500 hubcaps, telling me it was the worst rechrome job ever. Shame they were never redone, it was just the way stuff was done in 64.I asked him if his 1500 was nicer, and his exact quote was " I have never seen one before, much less own one"
MikeW Posted March 29, 2007 Share #15 Posted March 29, 2007 Every thread I see always has people picking the cars apart, are yours all perfect?Agreed. I do, however, consider it fair game if the description obviously misrepresents the car, for example, if it states "rust free" when there's clearly rust in the pictures provided. Montezuma Posted March 29, 2007 Share #16 Posted March 29, 2007 Speaking of Ebay; someone down on tabacco road got themselves a good here:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-Series-Datsun-240z_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6187QQitemZ190096310167QQrdZ1eal For $255.00 not bad for a parts car. ta240 Posted March 29, 2007 Share #17 Posted March 29, 2007 I think maybe when you have "FRAME UP RESTO MINT" in the title of the auction you are asking for it if it isn't perfect.I always love the ones that say 'recent restoration' and all they did was get the seats recovered and the car painted.-Trevor
e_racer1999 Posted March 29, 2007 Share #18 Posted March 29, 2007 i must say, very nice car, but not perfect and not as advertised. i would still pay 10K for it, tho
Mckrack Posted March 29, 2007 Share #19 Posted March 29, 2007 Yeah got a look at that one yesterday. I think the description said restored. NOT!The car has a lot of issues. I can say that this one is over priced.Getting to like those stripes though.McKrack
Stickerman Posted March 30, 2007 Share #20 Posted March 30, 2007 for example, if it states "rust free" when there's clearly rust in the pictures provided.I just read the auction, no where does this one say no rust. It says restored, ok, some of us have different ideas of what that means. I see people on this forum say "fram up" and "frame off" restored.I have never seen a Z car with a frame........ MikeW Posted March 30, 2007 Share #21 Posted March 30, 2007 I just read the auction, no where does this one say no rust.I wasn't speaking about the specific car in question but from more of a general point of view. I'm sorry if I didn't make that clear.
zbane Posted March 30, 2007 Share #22 Posted March 30, 2007 Can anyone point me to a thread where there is a car for sale and no one tears it apart?Every thread I see always has people picking the cars apart, are yours all perfect? To me this looks like a very nice car, not perfect, but nice. Here ya go, Stickerman-and I agree, I think the car looks nice too, but the description does not fit the bill. Check out the other cars at that shop-some of them are certainly frame off resto jobs... http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25295 Speaking for myself (though I believe others on this site would do the same), if I were to sell my car (ZX or other) on e-bay, or some similar service, I would list it as honestly as possible, even if my blatant honesty would cost me higher bids. Never would I list the car as "Restored" unless I had the documentation (pictures, reciepts, etc.) to back it up. http://www.autorestorer.com/articles/art115.html Regarding the seller of the Z in post 1, they should know what a Frame Up restoration means, considering the type of vehicles they specialize in selling (Classic, as in "Napoli Classics") Here's a beautifully done resto of an MG, check the difference in finish http://www.classicsandcustoms.com/search/MG_TF_16927.asp But, to get back on the original post, I'd like to know more about the blue Z in the distance. geezer Posted March 30, 2007 Share #24 Posted March 30, 2007 zbane - You've got a good eye to spot the blue Z in that pic! I zoomed in and studied it for a while but still wasn't sure what it was, but it does look to be in perfect restored condition with no rust!
