Series 1 Just Listed on Ebay

I had clicked on the ebay link, and that one wasn't listed, didn't think about going directly to the homepage :stupid: Oops. , and now that I've got the comparison photo, I can make out the vinyl top of the 710.

That 710 looks pretty good, couple trim issues (crooked badging) but cool none-the-less. Also much more reasonable at $7,400 for the sedan, vs. $19,800 for the Z.

Has anyone got an explanation for why there are no photos of the engine bay.

There were so many photos of the exterior/interior, I was surprised that there was not one (at least) of the engine bay???

I appreciated the keen observers who have pointed out the oddities about this 240Z. It is a bit like a competition to point out how many faults/misplaced parts etc can be found in such a listing.

Some of us are working through restorations/refreshments of their cars and would find some of this helpful, but also a bit threatning. For example, when work is "part" completed and there is more work to be done it may deter people from showing their cars before completion of the job?? Any thoughts??

Anyway it is all very interesting.

I think its a very nice car , flawless no but for it being in the NE I think the price isn't all that bad. If it was in the west coast I am sure it would be a 7k car , I also would want more specific pics as well. But overall not bad.

The car looks excellent for a 36 y/old ,the oil leak is not it is under body shultz overspray. the gaurd is not rusted as it is not a double skin here , just some stone chips, you guys ought to stop tossing and look at it for what it is, a mass produced cheap sports car that is presented very nicely at a reasonable price , what can you get for 10k these days, maybe a cheap hyaundi.Take the zed.

Every thread I see always has people picking the cars apart, are yours all perfect?

I have to disagree with a few of you about picking a car apart.I think it helps the newbie from buying something he doesn't know all the facts about and this helps him make an informed decision.It takes a long time to be able to spot things that are not just right and it helps others that have already purchaced a Z go back and look at their car to see if it is correct and whether it is worth the time and money to fix it.I took mine to a friend that specializes in series 1 and was glad that he pointed out things that were wrong.I have done my best to remedy everything I can to make it right.If picking a car apart on E-BAY helps one person keep from getting ripped off by some one misrepresenting it go for it.

Tell you the truth this was the First "Restored Z" I picked apart and it was only from knowledge I gained here, Thyanx GUYS !

It may sound like picking it apart, and some posts are a little ugly, but this is called "critique" and it is an entertaining game we play. In defense of the car, we can't really pick it apart because all we have to go by are the photographs. Critique is a perfectly normal thing to do and as long as we keep it constructive and don't go down the ugly path, we can enjoy a conversation about what we see or don't see concerning our knowledge and the sales presentation.

I was at a Z show one time and a guy started picking apart the chrome on my 64 1500 hubcaps, telling me it was the worst rechrome job ever. Shame they were never redone, it was just the way stuff was done in 64.

I asked him if his 1500 was nicer, and his exact quote was " I have never seen one before, much less own one"

You have a few good points in your post, the one about the chrome is excellent, I have a NOS set of European bumpers for my 240Z, and anybody can easliy see the bracket spot welds through the chrome. As you pointed out that is just the way it was done then.

I want my car to look period, so I am not having the bumpers smoothed and replated.

The guy who you exactly quoted opend his mouth and let his ignorance come out into plain view.

I have been guilty of that myself-a specific thread here on the 140Z leaps to mind though I don't see this thread as that sort.

There have been a very few threads where members here were all in agreement that the ad and the pictures matched and made sence. This is NOT one of those.

I commented on what I saw in the pictures that did not match the text of the ad. Since you saw this as a nice car, would you have rather purchased it as a ready to drive "ground up restoration", then found the rust, mismatched assembly and other issues we pointed out? As a Newbie, I would be ashamed to have bought that car as it was advertised, and been so seriously taken by the seller-I have been there before on a late console(posted a thread about it too), and didn't care for it much then, but chose to expose my stupidity to keep others from the same fate.

If helping a newbie not to get taken to the cleaners by some gloss and a glowing description of a silk purse that does not match the pictures of the sows ear in question, then I admitt guilt, and warn you now my behavior won't change! The car does not look bad, it simply is absolutely NOT as it has been advertised.

I will have my car at Daytona, and I invite you to pick it apart as I have several others here, and have challenged the car show judges to in entering it in the show in the first place! I am far more interested in what I don't see and miss than what I do see and catch. Given a choice, I would always rather learn than teach, but teaching is fun too.
