Posted March 31, 200717 yr comment_204258 I just bought a fan/alt V-Belt for my 73. The one they gave me is narrower than the one that came out. Maybe too narrow to drive the pulley properlyI was given a 7335 (25/64" wide), I think a 9335 (1/2" wide) was what was in there and what might fit best. I called another car parts place and they also said a 7335 is specified. Anyone know what really belongs there? Many thanks!Al Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/23786-v-belt-for-fan-alternator/ Share on other sites
April 1, 200717 yr comment_204317 On my '72 I have what looks to the eye 3/8" belt which corresponds well to your measurement of 25/64". On the fan pulley when the belt is seated, the belt very slightly rides above the outer rims of the pulley. To the best of my knowkledge that's the proper fit. I'm sure others can and will comment as to if that is correct or not. April 2, 200717 yr Author comment_204394 Thanks DeesZ,I installed the belt I was sold (7335) and it looks right on the alternator, but it sits too deep on the fan pulley. Today I looked at the original alternator I pulled from the car last year. It has a wide pulley. It looks like I'll be going back in to swap alternator pulleys (yuck) and buy the wider beltMy guess is Nissan changed to the wider belts for 73 (series IV?)Many thanks!Al Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/23786-v-belt-for-fan-alternator/#findComment-204394 Share on other sites
April 2, 200717 yr comment_204414 I use a Duralast, model 17350 (AutoZone special) that is 1.3cm X 89 cm. I believe the stock length is 93 cm. The belt fits perfectly on the stock pulley, however, I have to use a tad shorter belt as I have the Zspecialties alternator. I am maxed out on my alternator bar and am looking for a longer/better looking one. April 2, 200717 yr comment_204418 240-fan . As long as you can take up the slack and tighten it properly . What you have now should be just fine. This is not a critical thing, besides you have two different width pulleys , which are you going to try and fit. As long as the belt is riding on the sides of the pulley and not at the bottom only you will be fine. my 2cts. The alternator pulley is narrow. Unfortunately, the narrow belt is contacting the fan pulley bottom more than the sides. The wide belt would not ride well in the narrow pulley. At this point, my plan is to swap in the wide pulley from the original alternator and and get the wider belt.
