Door gap after weatherstripping

Hey guys,

Yes, I'll do a search later, but I'm right in the middle of this project and was hoping for a quick answer.

I installed new weatherstripping on the passenger side, and when I close the door I have a huge gap....I can get at least two fingers in the gap. Before I placed the new rubber the door closed perfectly. What's the best resolution to my problem. I'm assuming the same will happen when I move to the drivers side.

Are you saying that the door won't close all the way? Usually new weatherstrip makes the door harder to close. Some people have suggested spraying silicone lubricant on the weatherstrip to help make the doors close easier.

Prior to installing the new rubber, the door closed perfect, now with the new rubber it will close, and yes it hard to close, have to almost slam it, but once it's closed there is a huge gap that you can put your fingers in.

I don't think silicone will help the gap. I just can't understand why the new rubber is causing such a huge gap in the door.....

The door isn't closing all the way. There are two latches on the door, only the first one is catching. Open the door and turn the lock mechanism. I've been having the same problem on my 72. Even with Nissan factory weatherstripping it won't close right. I used a different weatherstrip on the driver door and it now closes fine. It is the one were the rubber is already attached to the welting.

Did you glue the weatherstrip on? If not just pull it back off - that's what I did when I needed to verify that the door was actually adjusted properly.

I'm going to guess and say you got your weatherstripping from too intense.

Either way there is no quick easy fix. Once you do a search you will see that we've discussed this topic quite a bit. MSA sells some rubber that will be softer and compress more.

I had the same issue with the weather stripping I got from Too Intense. The Doors would not close all the way at the bottom rear end of of the door. I just took a couple of months of use and adjustment of the door for me to adjust it properly.

I actually got the rubber from Black Dragon (sorry TBK1) install was easy, but man getting the doors right just SUCKS. With all the rubber out doors are great, they are loose, but flush with car. With this new rubber there is NO WAY to align the door flush, at least I can't figure it out. I'm taking a day off before I start round two.

I did go back and read post from the search engine and see that I am not the only one to suffer, oh well maybe tomorrow.
