April 4, 200717 yr comment_204771 I'm not sure what camera you are using, but would it be possible to mount it to the front bumper? I always love watching the videos when the camera is that far to the front, you see so much ... I've also seen where they inset the driver in the frame so you can see them work the shifter and wheel. Love the video and keep them coming. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/23827-drecos-lap-footage-at-msr/?&page=2#findComment-204771 Share on other sites
April 4, 200717 yr comment_204780 FWIW - I downloaded the file from Google video, plucked the actual link out of the gvp file and downloaded it as an AVI file. I found a little utility on the net called Gvi2Avi which converts the video from a Google "encrypted" file into a regular DIVx encoded AVI file. Wow, what a difference! Can run it full screen now and it looks spectacular - not the blocky, stuttering video when streaming from the Google server. It only takes a few extra minutes but it's well worth the effort. April 5, 200717 yr comment_204813 Hahah, that video is great. gives you a nice feel for the car and isn't just so static as all the others .... ... well if you were to secure it to the bumper (or anywhere else on the front of the car, you would need to make sure it was SUPER secure ... I have the big nasty 280z bumpers on my car. I have been tempted to secure my digital camera to the front with a boat load of duct tape if ever get my car onto the track. I do know the camera wouldn't go anywhere with the amount of tape I would use, but I also don't know how I would get to the buttons ... all these problems are for another day. April 5, 200717 yr comment_204859 Dreco - Great videos and a beautiful Z. Would you take a few momemts to desribe your Rebello motor (cc's, head, cam, dynoed power, etc.) and, especially, your exhaust system? I love the sound. Thanks. Would you take a few momemts to desribe your Rebello motor (cc's, head, cam, dynoed power, etc.) and, especially, your exhaust system? I love the sound. Thanks. well, lets see not sure of all the specs... I dyno'd it once 2 years ago with a 2-1/2 inch exhaust, adjusted valves wrong, damaged coil (bad spark) and plug gaps were set wrong and still put 200 to the wheels... since then, I figured how to tune this car hahah, I had my friend weld me up a 3 inch exhaust with a universal muffler from Topspeed Auto(his Z is pushing around 450 whp on high boost haha). I'd guess 220-230 whp? Rebello states this motor shoud be around 275 at the flywheel... I wasnt' to concerned with numbers at the time of the build to tell you the truth. I do know its a true 3.0L.. not 2.9 something. stroker crank, 240Z rods. head is a ported N42 with the cam being around something like a 500 lift(cant remember duration) The intake is bored as well as the SU carbs. (50mm each with shaved needles) Dave Rebello would probably have better specifics.. Mike Yoes did the head work. (I think he's running his own shop now).. April 5, 200717 yr comment_204888 I'll make a couple comments, since I'm Dave's friend who built the exhaust and also the transmission for his car, pictures and video don't do the car justice, it is one of the cleanest S30's I have ever seen, even the undercarriage is super straight and very very clean, The 3" exhaust is likely overkill for his set up, but I bet he doesn't have a problem hearing his engine over other cars on the track now, as it is extremely loud! But it sounds great, kind of a cross between a cammed up SBC at idle and a multicam V-8 at higher RPM, very aggressive. It sure revs nice and fast too. Make no mistake, the car is fast, but Dave can sure drive the wheels off of it too! Bummer about the cracked collector, I should pulled the header off to fabricate and weld the new 3" collector, instead of laying on my back spraying welding slag all over myself! :paranoid: Bring her back to the shop anytime and I'll redo the collector. Those videos are making me want to strip that '78 I have "resting" in a corner of the shop and slap my triples and my spare E-88 on the L-28 and go to MSR! I wonder just how light I could make a '78 chassis? Or maybe I should finish my street car first... April 5, 200717 yr comment_204891 Yeah, I was sure we would need some mud tires to make it out! anyway, it'll go quicker at the shop if you just bring the header, but we can sure pull it off at my place, either way is fine with me. If you pull it apart, see if you can fit the entire exhaust in your truck and I'll pretty up the welds on the muffler too, I bought a new grinder to replace my very old 4" that quit on me the day I did your exhaust.I'm off tomorrow, just call the house and we'll set it up Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/23827-drecos-lap-footage-at-msr/?&page=2#findComment-204891 Share on other sites
