Different fusable link set up (picture)

We had some electrical work done on my 280 last month to go over the wiring and replace some of the old corroted wires and connections. One of the things they did was put a different style fusable link set up which loses the fusable link covers, so here's a picture of what it looks like. Thought you guys might be interested in seeing it.

Im confused! looks like there is one missing, should be 4 I only see threee!!!

Of course Im already on the CROWN so that might have something to do with it!

Here is another option for the fusible links ... since I lost my cover the other day, I figure I would put the cost of a new cover toward this ...

Okay, I'll say it since no one else has but this looks kinda 'Mickey-Mouse' to me. I can understand the fuse kits like Greg showed, but how is this better than the stock setup?

When your old fuse link housings are completely melted, the mounts are broken and the wires are corroded, that setup there looks just fine

I've had the maxi-fuse setup in a couple of our 280Z's and have had trouble with corrosion. Now I'm installing a sealed fuse/relay box from a Dodge Neon to replace all of the relays and fuses on the hood.

I've had no problems with the stock setup. I clean the contacts and terminals occasionally and I guess that's why.

Two of the fuse link circuits gan be ganged together, and it would work, but the links are there for electrical safety, so I wouldn't recommend it. I agree the wiring should be straighted up at the least. Those black plastic covers do look out of place too. It depends on the owner's priorities- looks or function.

The original fusable links were pretty corroted and one had already been fried, so instaid of repairing the old wiring, they decided to go with this new set up. I myself don't really mind the look of it, but I always like hearing everybody's opinion on it too.

You can do this set up on a 240z, just follow the same basic concept but use a wiring diagram to adapt it for your needs.

I looked at that link and I had to chuckle as it stated that the fusible links were "problematic"?? I have owned some of the worst and most offensive '77 and '78 280Z's and with the exception of one that was bought a s aparts car and already had some butchering done to the fusible links I have never had any problems with the fusible links at all.

As you stated if you simply clean the contacts with a little emory paper and replace the links themselves along with the covers you should never have any problems. Last time I bought a set from Banzai Motorworks (too lazy to deal with the ignorant parts counter at the local Nissan dealer) which included the covers it was less than $20.00!

Besides as a friend of mine likes to say "I have never lost money when it came to leaving a car essentially stock". I would not want to have to explain to a potential buyer how and why the wiring harness was "modified".
