we used to own a '90 300ZX that had a tiny push switch mounted under the dash that made an electrical connection to the starter. you also had to have the lights on to give the switch power to work. two items that had to be done in order to start the car. this seemed very simple and inexpensive to wire in place. the switch had to be pushed in when the key was turned or the starter wouldn't engage,and most folks never found the switch and sure didn't make the connection without knowing to turn on the lights first.

Do you think having to turn the lights on before starting the engine is a good thing? If your battery is partially down, then you won't be able to start the engine & charge the battery...

This is too common to be of much use. The more seasoned thieves will figure that one out, but it's better than nothing unless as you pointed out, your battery is low.

Perhaps there's a better place to get a power feed for your switch? I assumed you were using the headlamps for power, so going with the running lights would be a better choice. Maybe there's a better one than that even.
