Garage Floors

Fred,

Great Job!! I struggled last year when I moved over several different do it your self floors. One of the things I thought about most was the prep. I had used the epoxy floor coating from Home Depot in the past but it did crack and peel from hot tires and running the jack over it. So I used the Premier Garage system on the floor when I moved. Since several previous posts have discussed various floors I am posting a few pics of the before and after. The cabinets that I used are unfinished kitchen units from Lowe's.

Based on your before and after pics I know you are really pleased about the outcome. Give some details on how it does.

Again, great job and a job well done.

Bob

All,

Thanks for the compliments, I really like this floor.

I used http://www.epoxy-coat.com/

I also had them do the installation. Why? Because they did it in 2 hours. Now that I know how to do it I would do it myself.

Us amateurs would wash/scrub the floor to get the grease/oil up. Then let dry. Then use an acid to etch and let dry.

Then you mix the epoxy and brush on the edges, the center is rolled. Then you start flinging flakes and aluminum oxide (grit) into the air.

That process would have taken me days.

What do they do? Bring a floor grinder with a vacuum hose attachment with a "diamond polishing" pad thingy. They "sanded" the floor in about 45-50 minutes. Then mixed up the stuff and did the rest.

It is not too slick due to the flakes and grit.

We picked the flake colors to highlight HLS30-00095 in wonderful BRG.

Since this is not a water based epoxy it is a lot more resistant to the problems that you have with many of the kits.
