Posted April 9, 200717 yr comment_205325 So I was working on my wiring in the hatch today, when I pulled off the passengers side panel to reveal a plastic container with a bunch of hoses on it. Is that a charcoal canister?... should it be inside the passenger compartment? Also, it appears my awesome previous owner has replaced a wheel stud with a standard one some time ago... .really annoying cause there is only one nut that must go on that stud.... What is the proper standard size to replace this. Thanks,Adamby the way its my 71 240z Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/23894-couple-odd-questions/ Share on other sites

April 9, 200717 yr comment_205329 That's your evaporative fuel recovery system and if the tank is plastic, it's an early one. Later tanks were metal. Good link above. April 9, 200717 yr comment_205334 Plastic evap tanks were used through at least 4/71 production, as I have a spare un-cracked one from my parts car, as well as the one still in my 10/70 yellow car. By 7/71 production they had changed to metal, as that's what's in my red car. April 9, 200717 yr Author comment_205341 Thanks,So just to get this right. That tank traps fumes allowing them to condense and go back into the tank? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/23894-couple-odd-questions/#findComment-205341 Share on other sites
April 9, 200717 yr comment_205343 ... any decent tire store could get you into the right size stud and lug nut if the hole isn't too big now... Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/23894-couple-odd-questions/#findComment-205343 Share on other sites
April 9, 200717 yr comment_205345 Thanks,So just to get this right. That tank traps fumes allowing them to condense and go back into the tank? This is the intent. to keep the fumes from the environment. If you know about the dangers of gasoline vapors , I am with you about the surprise to find it in the cabin. My self I did away with the thing altogether.
