Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432

Hi,

I replaced an inspection lamp from later new one to an old original one.

The old one has a different mounting base which does not have a gap.

I sent this old one to a shop for re-plating then installed wires and switch pulled out from the new one.

And I replaced clamps for S20 engine, its oil separator tubes originally have old style clamp.I had have later clamps,I replaced to old ones.

As I see it, early L-series S30s have old style clamp for fuel tube, 8 or 10 pieces needed while S20 engine does not use the old style clamp.

But S20 needs 3 middle size old clamp for the oil separator.

In a thread from a couple years ago Alan noted that the S-30S also had all clear glass as standard equipment http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showpost.php?p=236873&postcount=9. Is that not correct?

Mike,

I certainly didn't dream it all up on my own after eating too much cheese before bedtime.

As Kats points out, the early Japanese market parts lists don't show the "untint" clear glass of the 'Z-Std' / S30-S, but early models certainly featured clear, untinted glass. I believe that this is just another omission from the parts lists, and that later 'Z-Std' models ( although I don't know how late ) received tinted glass in much the same way as they suddenly received the dipping mirrors. I wonder if this was some kind of rationalisation measure?

If you compare the S30-series Z to other contemporary Nissan models like the C10 Skyline, the 'Std' or most basic models often had clear, untinted glass whilst the 'Dx' models got tinted. Also, GT-R models of the C10 Skyline range got clear glass, no doubt as part of their 'pure driving' image.

I'm fairly sure I have an early 1970 Japanese magazine road test which mentions the clear glass of the Std model. I shall see if I can find it again.

Mike,

Good to hear that you have cut back on the late night cheese Alan.

If you take another look at my post #335 I hope you will see that I was providing your old post as support for the fact that clear glass was standard equipment on the S-30S at least initially. Kats had stated that all S30s except the Z-432R (including the S30-S base model) had tinted glass.

Hi,

This S30S has tinted screen, and at the left door glass, you can see the little notation sticker it says "S30S" inverted see through. Maybe this sticker was for the crews of photo session.

And some from service bulletin of Fairlady Z, the description about glasses

it says all car has tinted for all around.

But as we know, even factory publishings are not correct all ways.

Hi,

Nothing new about my Zs but I recently purchased a nice item from Yahoo japan auction.

This is a big photo panel of a Failady-Z with an automatic transmission(S30A, Z-L) unkown year and date.

I guess it was been hanging on a wall of a dealer showroom when the S30series made its debut of auto trans. So it was in late 1970?

The size 100cmX70cm (39 inc X 28 inc).

The seller has listed other items which are very rare goodies amoung us.

See attached pictures, a clock and a key holder.

Hi,

TA auto is a restoration shop in Chiba prefecture, Ando-san is an owner of the shop and he is a great restorer.

My Z432 lost a bracket for the tube of a radiator reservoir tank and I need it for a long time.

Ando-san made it for me from a steel.

kats,

I am loving that key holder! The clock is pretty interesting too.

Also, back to your discussion regarding the Fairlady 240Z (HS30S) that you posted a picture of earlier. It was not visible in your picture so I thought I would ask... Do you know if the HS30S had black wind shield wiper arms?

I was adding the driver side wiper arm on my Fairlady 240Z-L, because I was missing one. I received the driver side from espriest and after I looked at my old passenger arm, I noticed it had faded black paint! I spoke with espriest and he said that some of the 240Z-L and 240Z-G came with black wiper arms, per his parts catalog. I guess I will be painting mine soon!

I am just curious as to if you saw this on the HS30S as well, and if you happen to have a picture? I am also interested in finding out whether the wiper BLADES were also black as well...

Thank you Glenn,

Yes your Fairlady 240Z has black wiper arms and blades.

We can see them in these pictures, the red 240Z from a car magazine(still owned by a gentleman) ,the blue 240Z from Nissan factory photo.

You should be very proud because old days in Japan tax was so high for at or above 2000cc engined car, I think buying and owning a Z432 was cheaper than that of a 240Z for some 20 or 30 years.

People who did not care about tax and were interested in L-24 engine prefered 240Z with a G-nose(Fairlady 240-ZG).

So Fairlady 240Z is a very rare car to succesfuly survived. Fairlady 240Z was not a car to be chosen in used car shop because of tax ,because of without G-nose. Fairlady 240Z was scrapped easily.

Keep it forever:):)

Kats,

That is great news to hear! It is very interesting to know that even the wiper blades were black! I still have one original black wiper blade. I will paint both my wipers black now that I have learned this.

Thanks for the great pictures!

Hi,

I have collected 7 original tires. Each tire came from each place. They all flew from the U.S.

Thank you so much for all of friends helping me.

After the quake, my 240Z is now my home.

Today I did some work for my Zs.

Two of them are not sufficient for installing, I chose 5 of them.

My dream comes true, I have been wating this looks for a long time.

Steel wheels, they are 4.5 inches , this is a very important point for the original looks.

I really love this old 175 SR 14 tire, I love this shape and I love this tread pattern.

None of todays tire can make me happier than this original "Bridgestone Super speed radial-20 175 SR 14"

240Z and Z432,which is my favorite looks? The answer is 240Z with original wheels and caps.

I had a good time today:)
