Z432 prevent overcooling

I made a instant solution for Z432 overcooling.

S20 engine has a very well designed cooling system so in the winter

it tends to be overcooled.

Last month I drove Z432 1200 km ( 800 miles) to be shoot for the magazine

in Tokyo, high way cruising under 3 degrees celsious ( 38 F)

was something hard situation as looking at temp meter did not go up,

always stayed around 1/4 of its scale.

So I made this , leather cover for the oil cooler.

Very easy, 30 min to finish. And worked very well. If I could stamp NISSAN

humberger on it, it woud be perfect for authenticity.

In contrast, here in  Canada we just put cardboard in front of the radiators.... but we are hill-billies  and hicks from the sticks  (or organic)

 

That is why few car parts are made in Canada but the boxes they come in are cardboard from Canadian trees.

Today I drove my 1970 240Z a lot, very cold out side and like Z432, the water temp kept low.

I want a cardboard...

Hi Kats.  When did you get the 1972 240Z?  It looks nice.  Is that the one that Jay Ataka had on his website on one point?  I recall it was an orange automatic like yours.

 

Also, regarding the muffler, I saw that Jay posted on his blog about differences he claims on the 240Z mufflers .  Do you agree with his comments?  I thought all the mufflers had the Nichira makers name on them?

I checked the website, mostly I agreed. I still have a question about Nichira logo on top from the biggining or not.

The one in his website looks slightly different in some portion from mine , mysterious and interesting !

Yes the 1972 orange 240Z came from his shop. A real surviver, unbelievably preserved car.

I met Mr. Uemura and Mr. Osawa yesterday, they remember me

when we had a chat back in 2003.

At the interview they kindly let me have production figures 1969 and 1970

we had never seen at the time.That was a great moment for all of us .

They told me some interesting new story of the test ride in late 1969

in the US and Canada, I will let you know more later.

Remember one of the test car was an 3N71A auto trams?

I asked them why the launching auto trans delayed, did they find

some problems?

They said "3N71A was very good, very easy to drive. They preferred it especially when they drove steep hill

in Sanfrancisco area.

Just production line was not ready at the time"

And in cold wether operation in Canada, they wanted -30 degrees Celsius, but

they ended up only -20 degrees Celsius, I asked did the 240Z behave satisfactory under such a cold winter condition, they said no problem at all , but they do not remember clearly about it ,they said sometimes they might put card board in front of the radiator!!

I liked it and it made me smile.

I second that! They must have got the development right because I never had to use cardboard on my Zeds, or 510s for that matter, no matter how cold it was!

I love seeing detail pictures of your car.

 

Also I had seen this picture yesterday and I said to myself " that is Kats car".

 

Your car looks great, Kats!  I wish I had known you were going to speak with Mr. Uemura and Mr. Osawa because I have so many questions to ask them.  I have so much more information about that time in 1969 now.  By the time they came to America with their cars, the HLS30 was in full swing production.  "Testing" the new design was already complete.  The American press introductions were during that time.  And I wonder how much 'testing' was really the subject of their project.  Rather, I am lead to believe, they came to America to drive the cars and show them to Datsun dealers.

240Z exhaust tip,

Here is a NOS muffler for 240Z( S30) , 20100-E4100 .

Nichira (Nihon Radiator ) logo are embossed on top , and there is

" 92 11 " slightly right side of it, I guess this means manufactured in Nov 1992 .

Nissan was kindly making for 20+ years old model's muffler at that time!

My question is, is there "Nichira " on top since Oct 1969 ?

Owners who still have original muffler can tell , please look at your muffler.
