RS02 Posted January 22, 2019 Share #1369 Posted January 22, 2019 Wow... This thread is a treasure. Gave me something to do during snowstorms here in Michigan. If any of you need some help with dodgy Chinese companies I can help clearing up things. Being a Chinese I'm not proud but I had dealt with them quite a while now. Kameari have some pretty cool products like the tensioner. Never go into their store cuz when I walked in wanting to buy a damper I ended up with a bag of stuff and an empty wallet!Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile 2
kats Posted January 24, 2019 Author Share #1370 Posted January 24, 2019 Thanks Gavin , additional pictures are fun to look at . Hi RS02 , let’s enjoy our Z together. Always nice to see owners in overseas. Kameari Engine Works is very popular in Japan , L Gata engine builders can’t do their work without Kameari. Recently Kameari is listing almost every S20 Engine’s “ necessary “ parts , that is also very helpful. Some of them are made in outside Japan , oh , I am waiting to hear about “ S20 replacement cylinder head “ which is made in Thailand. RS02 Posted January 24, 2019 Share #1371 Posted January 24, 2019 I got one of their catalogs when I was in Japan and man I wish I had known them before rebuilding my engine. I'm still drooling over the JDM taillight they sell. (Not because jdm just that I think it looks better with yellow turn signals)So they are producing replacement S20 heads huh? I am still looking into getting a rb30e head to try and modify into that cross flow LY head Nissan produced.Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile

kats Posted January 28, 2019 Author Share #1373 Posted January 28, 2019 (edited) About a Mikuni Solex carb , what everyone is doing about this , eight shape rubber gasket . This gasket is not listed on a service manual / parts catalog because it is not meant to be disassembled. Please see the pictures, you see the eight shape groove on the cast jet block body . If this gasket deteriorated , fuel is not supplied correctly. However , overhaul kit never including this gasket . This gasket is sold by a few venders . The gasket is described “ Factory Mikuni made “ . I have some , yes I think they are genuine by the looks . Each one cost 1000 JPY ( 10 USD ) ! How come this is available, while overhaul kit does not have it . Anyway , I have bought some from a local Mikuni service shop . @nix240z , is there any chance to make this by your hand ? If demand is large enough , a price will be less than 10 USD ? Kats Edited January 28, 2019 by kats
kats Posted January 28, 2019 Author Share #1374 Posted January 28, 2019 By the way , the left choke disc is an early type , the right one is later type . My spare set of Mikuni 40 PHH is an early type which has straight-head screw for securing top cover . They must have an early type choke disc but , later type is on . Today Mr. Shimoura ( Hakosuka GTR And ZG owner ) gave me an old picture attached on a wooden frame , he told me the engine is for KPGC 110 ( Ken & Merry GTR ) because the oil cap is a black plastic , and the carburetors has Philip head screws for a top cover .And the choke disc is a later type . Jason240z Posted January 28, 2019 Share #1375 Posted January 28, 2019 Great detail on the Solex. Nice to see some Kehin FCR's on the l6/twincam engine.

As soon as I finish this car I'll look into getting a rb30e head. I can only read some of the kanji so it's hard trying to figure out how he did it... But yeah thanks for mentioning him. His my #1 source for gathering information about this swap.Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile

I wonder why you wouldn't use the RB30 though, since the ports are likely to be larger?

I found a vendor in the US that sells them however, as mine were so brittle when I removed them they broke into several pieces, they were more like plastic than rubber! https://www.ebay.com/itm/TOYOTA-2000-GT-SOLEX-MIKUNI-40-PHH-CARBURETOR-GASKET-KIT/291845981988?epid=1642106380&hash=item43f3604724:g:GuAAAOSw6n5XsK8M:rk:15:pf:0 eBay seller Upgrade Motoring has all the parts from what I can gather. https://www.ebay.com/usr/upgrademotoring eg: https://www.ebay.com/itm/MIKUNI-44PHH-CARB-GASKETS-REBUILD-KIT-W-PUMP-DIAPHRAGM-FIG-8-ORINGS-240Z-510-S30/142838570315?hash=item2141d79d4b:g:ct4AAOSw-RhaWVRn:rk:11:pf:0 This kit is good value. https://www.ebay.com/itm/MIKUNI-44PHH-CARB-GASKETS-REBUILD-KIT-X3-W-PUMP-DIAPHRAGM-FIG-8-ORING-240Z-SOLEX/143029235076?hash=item214d34ed84:g:WdoAAOSwzhZb~HGW:rk:29:pf:0 Or this European seller has them for $3 each. https://www.ebay.com/itm/SOLEX-40-PHH-MIKUNI-CARBURETOR-JET-CARRIERS-O-RING-8-SHAPED/292072596660?hash=item4400e224b4:g:iJwAAOSwJQdXDSoz:rk:22:pf:0

Kats I have both early and late but I never knew the fasteners were OEM. I just thought someone had replaced the phillips head screws with the other type! I've got a few pairs of 40's and about 5 sets of 44's now.. (I have a problem) but I love these carbs. I forgot to mention above that with regard to the missing gaskets, I found the same problem with my SU carb rebuild kit, that the fuel filter screens, the crush washers and some gaskets were missing. The rebuild kit also didn't contain new floats, which I thought was odd if I'm honest. So it's not unusual that rebuild kits don't contain everything. I think in most cases the assumption is that you don't remove the jet block when rebuilding these carbs and just replace all the other gaskets and accelerator pump diaphragm? Who knows? I had all my carbs completely disassembled and I vapour blasted them to look like new! Photos here: https://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/11264-safari-brown-i-mean-gold-the-nsw-project/?do=findComment&comment=205897 Before: After: My SU's I rebuilt myself after having all fasteners plated and manifold + carb bodies vapour blasted. I should really order in the parts to finish my Mikuni rebuild's. Compared to working on SU's, I love the Mikuni's. They are easier in many ways to work with.

Problem that I can see is mainly chamber volume because rb30e has Hemi style chambers. Would require custom pistons.
