So there is a difference in the seat reclining mechanism cover . The earlier one has a wide tab , on the other hand , the later one has a narrow tab . This difference comes from the travel amount of the seat back supports . I don't know about anybody else, but for me what I call the "flip forward" function of the seat back wasn't so much about quick recline of the seat back for driving position, but more useful to access the area behind the seats and the tool stowage area/rear deck via the doors. Maybe everybody else thinks about it in a different way? November 1969 Nissan 'Service Shuho' #184 (Z-1) calls the lever the 'Reclining Device' and the large knurled knob the 'Back Fine Adjustment Device'. The later design added more forward flip, but I've always thought of it as more useful for access...

Here is one with the knob on the outside. Why do you think the seats have been reversed, Blue? Or are you insinuating that they are originally like this?
Mark Maras Posted April 26, 2019 Share #1479 Posted April 26, 2019 My early 71 had the knurled knobs. It was a PITA to access the jack and tools anchored under the plastic hinged cover.

I swapped in some seats from a 77 280Z, new foam and leather from Interior Innovations, and now have the flip forward option which is really nice for access to the jack and tools under the plastic hinged covers.
kats Posted April 30, 2019 Author Share #1482 Posted April 30, 2019 Hi , I have picked up my car , and the seats were beautifully done , I am so happy with it . Mr. Sudo made them look early type , fat seat back . And also he put his hand work for my 240ZG’ s seat bottom . Only RHD bottom have it’s center portion replaced . I can’t tell which one replaced viewing from a few feet away. Kats
Gav240z Posted April 30, 2019 Share #1483 Posted April 30, 2019 Hey Kats, let me know if you have any old blue seat material you don't need afterwards? I would like it for HS30 01415 ?
kats Posted April 30, 2019 Author Share #1484 Posted April 30, 2019 (edited) @nix240z , thanks Steve , the blue seats now got your seat bottom bolster, looks Fantastic and installed just like an original !! The picture which shows the blue interior used for measurements is excerpt from the video of Nissan motor company. My blue is a little bit greenish , the color was arranged to achieve matching other aged interior trims . The biggest problem is , either my old blue vinyl or remaining vinyl are not enough for your pair of seats . Kats

kats Posted April 30, 2019 Author Share #1487 Posted April 30, 2019 (edited) Thanks Chris , I like it too . Here is a quiz , Who said “ let’s shave the meat here “ of the early seat back ? #1 Mr . K #2 Interior designers #3 Kaku - U member (test crew of 240Z in US and Canada in late 1969 ) Mr . Sudo always says “ the seat which I make is not original, but I try to make it look original. Also I add pads and change tension of springs etc etc , these work will definitely give more comfortabl hold for a driver / a passenger. I think the modification of a later slim type to transform to an early fat type was a challenging task , this had never done before for Mr . Sudo . Pleas see attached pictures, the shape is different, and now I feel very natural that my 03/70 240Z has a pair of an early type seats . I have bought a beige rubber band for the seat bottom, but this time I didn’t intend to supply it because Mr. Sudo ‘s band is very attractive for me . I will not take my blue 240Z for The judged car show anymore , and I think I can make it original look using the rubber band anytime . kats Posted May 5, 2019 Author Share #1488 Posted May 5, 2019 (edited) Hi , Who said “ let’s shave the meat here “ of the early seat back ? #1 Mr . K #2 Interior designers #3 Kaku - U member (test crew of 240Z in US and Canada in late 1969 ) The answer is #3 Kaku - U member . They reported back to Tokyo along with numerous other issues of a new sports car , S30 series . I installed the seat bottoms which were restored by Mr . Sudo for my 240ZG , the seat backs are non - restored, 100 % originals . But I see some deformed at the RHD seat . looks so nice.
