My thinking - and it is just a possibility, I have no evidence - is that because it was an early lightweight '240ZR' (featuring all the PZR lightweight tricks) it would have been fitted with the PZR type lightweight front fenders. I believe these required the side marker/repeater holes to be stamped out in a separate process, and it just may not have been done. I remember there being one or two instances of factory race cars like this. Australian market cars didn't have the holes stamped either, which perhaps shows us that it was indeed a separate process in the front fender manufacturing. Just a theory. I've seen evidence of hand-cutting features on other Works cars too.

This makes good sense - a very straightforward and reasonable explanation.

The factory competition cages used "7" bolts to mount?  With the blurry pictures I had available, I interpreted the markings as a "9", and spent weeks getting those assembled.  There are only four "9" bolts with the right thread pitch per car, so they were a little hard to come by (*Hard* - see what I did there? 😀)

Thanks Alan, seems to make sense to me. Light weight front fenders are so special.

Still, it is only a hunch. The key point is that damage in testing was a distinct possibility, if not inevitable. We know '8D-420' was an early Works rally test car, and that it had been used fairly hard before and during the AUTO Sport magazine feature. After that it was clearly spruced up (and the black anti-dazzle paint added to the top front surfaces) before the DRIVER magazine feature. There might have been some haste involved.

The hex bolts (technically screws) that go through the four tubes are quite unusual in the Nissan Engineering Standard. Hard to find.

Bear in mind that the Nissan factory option/Sports Option/Race Option 'Safety Bar' was subtly different than the versions used by the Works team. Vertical drop base mounts in particular.

Here you go Kats, it appears on Takeuchi-sans Z432R PS30-00187, not sure if its original or a racing modification. Considering Take's car is so original it's quite unusual.

Nothing to do with Nissan. The wishbone braces are a personal, aftermarket, addition 40+ years after the car was made.

A 'TOR CO' moment for you, I'm afraid. Go and sit in the corner until the school bell rings.

Hi Roo , from this picture, I see one hole at the  rear suspension transverse link member , is that what you intended to point out?
This hole is not always there , I believe I only saw one PZR except Takeuchi san’s PZR in my experience. There is no specific part number for the transverse link member. So probably one-off hand made ?

And also Takeuchi san put on sports option adjustable suspension struts . If we judged this car at stock class , this adjustable suspension would have been regarded as a modification because when the car was assembled , that suspension was not available on a sports option catalog . Instead of that , a fixed type struts was available for PZR ,this one could be “ no-deduction point “ if judges know what they are .

Originally PZR has normal struts which are shared with PZ for the front , shared with all the other S30 models for the rear when it left from the factory . Just springs are different.

One surprising thing is , those PZR normal springs for normal suspension struts ( PZ & PZR front struts is -E4225 , rear struts is - E4125 ) have softer spring rate .
This is very interesting!  I will be back later .

Slight tangent. Here’s a glovebox which I butchered while replacing my rally clock.  I noted that it was RHD-only (single left-side notch) whereas later ones I’ve seen are notched on both sides. Not necessarily Z432-specific observation, but I was wondering if that was true with the early cars, or if I’m looking at a cheap repop with only one notch.

these seem to be fairly straightforward to replicate, yet I have not seen a source for them.

Wow ! Thanks, that is what I have been wondering and waiting to see . Fairlady Z Air conditioner manual said “ you need to buy 68600-E4102 glove box assembly for cars up to S30-01629 . Cars after S30-01629 have already 68600-E4102 “

I was wondering what is the difference between them . Now I can see the one you showed us is the early one, and later one  notched both sides for better spacing of the Aircon system . I can see the attached picture excerpt from the Aircon manual , we see notched both sides , this is 68600-E4102 . The ducts from the both end of the dashboard wrapped with thin sponge sheet , and ducting around evaporator need more space I think .

By the way , LHD 240Z has the same glove box?
