So what mpg to you get? Model, Year, any mods done?

Going to get an idea of what I might get myself, as I am going to be taking my car on a 2,500 mile journey home next month I hope. After I do the brakes, suspension, tires, and a little more engine tweaking I hope to be off.

Luke, my red '71 is totally stock with 4 speed, like yours is. I've only put 1300 miles on it since I got it, but I seem to get 18-20 MPG in mostly town driving, and 28-30 on the highway, depending on speeds. If I do freeway at 70-75, figure 28. Back roads at 55-60 seems to give a solid 30.

70' 240Z, original block, E-88 head, Stage 2 cam (480/280) Original S.U's, MSD 6A, Mallory Unilite dizzy, 2 1/2" exhaust thru 6 into 1 headers. 225/50R16's 79' 280ZX 5-speed 159,650 miles Never rebuilt.

28-30 freeway

19-22 in town

burns a lot of oil though

I was just thinking of posting a mpg thread! Funny how that is...

My 1976 280z with a completely stock 2.8l 4 speed I calculated last weekend gets 18.7 for stop and go driving. I've taken it on a few long mile journeys, but not long enough to get a good estimate for highway mpg, so I have yet to find that out...

This is an interesting thread for the prevailing fuel costs, here in Canada I'm paying $1.19 a litre/that's getting up around $5 a gallon (imperial). To put it in context - I just filled up last night and it cost $57. That hurt!

But what hurts most is I figure I'm only getting about 16-18 mpg combined.

Four speed, 77 with emission gear and maybe a heavyer than average foot.

Drove my stock 78 5-Speed 280Z from Sacramento to Los Angeles for the West Coast Nationals. Left Friday night and came back Sunday night. My speedometer is accurate using the highway mileage markers. I recorded a total of 4 refueling stops to top off the tank.

Start | End | Gallons | Miles | MPG

71878 | 72138 | 11.146 | 260 | 23.33

72138 | 72374 | 9.873 | 236 | 23.9

72374 | 72567 | 8.145 | 193 | 23.7

72567 | 72824 | 11.364 | 257 | 22.62

Total miles = 946 / 40.528 Gallons = 23.34MPG

The odometer has turned over once. So it started at 171,878 miles on the original motor. The RPM's averaged about 3,200 on Interstate 5. This was both to and from. Most of the way I was in groups doing about 85-90. This mileage was also with the A/C on. There was a little bit of driving around the Los Angeles area included. Fuel used was 89 octane.

Mine is not a daily driver. The triple webbers are way to rich at low revs but work fine at over 2000rpm. So it is lousy around town but great on the open road. I fill up every 100 kilometers worst has been 30 litres best in the low to mid 20 litres per 100 km. Not too sure what this is in mpg, about 8 to 12 I suspect. It uses premium unleaded which costs about $1.35 per litre.
