Posted April 12, 200718 yr comment_205707 Last summer I bought new wheels for the Z and have a set of mesh wheels(see gallary) that Im not sure what to do with. I dont know the brand all I know is they were put on shortly after the car was purchased new. I am wondering if I should keep them or if anyone has any interest in them. They have tires on them that will have to replaced as they are a little cracked but the tread is good the wheels are 14x5.5 or 6 I can look in the rim for the size and I can put up some better pics. They look like enkie or appliance maybe Arne can tell. Not sure if Ill sell was trying to get a reaction from you guys first. Thanks for the help. April 12, 200718 yr comment_205711 Hard to say, as the images in the gallery don't show the wheels up close. Not Enkei's, might be Appliance - if so they are probably 14x6. If you've got a close up I might be able to pin them down. Also look for any words or numbers cast/stamped in the back side. Here's an Appliance. Mine are rusted.thanks Mike Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/23934-mesh-wheels/#findComment-205717 Share on other sites
April 12, 200718 yr comment_205723 Yes, the one I pictured is an Appliance. I used Eagle center caps on mine, from Massey's in Oklahoma, as noted in this thread:http://classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22863&highlight=appliance+capsThe Eagle caps are the proper size, are retained in the same manner, and are very similar in shape to the original Appliance caps, but have the Eagle logo stamped in the center. I'm going to try to cover the Eagle logo with "Z" stickers from MSA soon. Not sure how it'll look, the Z stickers are 1.5" but the recess on the caps is 1.75". I have found a source for 1.75" Datsun stickers, but they are a bit more colorful than I'd prefer on my wheels. I'll post pictures (maybe in the other thread) once my Z stickers get here. April 12, 200718 yr comment_205748 Probably Appliance then, although I've seen some that are virtually identical that were made in Japan. Perhaps made for and distributed by Appliance as well, since they had old, rusty Appliance caps also. April 12, 200718 yr Author comment_205751 The original owner said they were put on at the Datsun dealership when he bought the car. I thought I might use them if I ever buy another Z but the problem as you well know is getting 14" tires. I know they are out there but limited. The other reason I would want them is just for the simple fact that they are old and in realy good shape. When I bought the car I took the mothers powerball to them and WOW what a difference they look nice and shiny now. Oh and by the way I think the center caps were just a generic brand the ones that came with spinners. Now those were put on back in like the early 90's. Not sure what was on it before that for caps. I actually used the spinner caps on my new rewinds cause the ones that come with those dont clear the dust caps and they look great. April 13, 200718 yr comment_205755 Well, if they are as old as the car, they almost have to be Appliance. Not many other choices in that style that long ago.As for the spinners, it's good to know they fit on the Rewinds, since the real Rewind caps don't. Although I've never cared for the looks of those things, personally. April 13, 200718 yr Author comment_205821 Yes the look is not for everyone I agree but atleast we know that a generic cap with or with the spinner should work. April 13, 200718 yr comment_205861 Hey Arne. I bought the Z adhesive gel centers from MSA and they don't fit. They look funny, being to small for the Eagle center cap. I used them for my toolbox. I used them for my toolbox.I was afraid of that. Oh well, they were cheap. I suspect they'll arrive today.
