Starting car without lights plugged in...

Here'z another situation...

I need to work on my car this weekend probably on the street in front of the house. The headlights/markers are disconnected from the main harness. All dash connections are in place, will the car start (the car is being towed home)? I just need to be able to move it off the street to beat the parking police...

Yes, as long as the engine harness and the battery is connected, the car will run-though you will have to start it with a quarter under the car if you have the dash out and the ignition switch disconnected-assuming you have a mechanical fuel pump, and not an electric one.

Wait up a sec....if the dash is out, you'll at least need to connect the Tach and it wouldn't hurt to connect the ammeter. The first to make sure it will run, the second so you don't fry anything. This presumes the fuse box is still connected to the dash harness.

Hey Guys,

As far as I know the interior connections to/from the fuse box are still intact. The dash is still installed and connected to the main harness. I seem to recall a thread sometime back about the car not starting if the tach and/or ammeter was unplugged. All gauges are still connected. Battery has been on trickle charge since yesterday...gonna be a big Z weekend. Excited/apprehensive and anticpating spousal resistance but "...at least I'm finally getting rid of that stack of parts..Hon'..." Wish me luck...
