they had an eppisode of mythbusters on the discovery channel today and they tested putting a raw egg in a radiator after puting a good sized hole in it and it did stop the leak and it lasted a good while, they said it makes a good temp fix

Yeah, you need about 1/2 a shaker of the black peper. They also suggested bubblegum and J.B. Weld, but you could just use some radiator stop-leak.

The idea was from some people out camping, and they had extra eggs. Since eggs are darn tough suckers when WAY over-cooked, it ought to work well on smallish holes, but I wonder if all the heat, water, and pressure would shoot the plug out after a while. Hopefully, you can get to a repair place before then.

Mythbusters did a whole show on cars today, but I only caught the last minutes, when they tried to put a penny into the intake manifold of a trashy V-8 engine. The penny bounced around and you could hear it knocking, but the engine didn't suddenly sieze up, like the one myth said. they also tried bleach in the oil. It did smoke like crazy, and the engine started to run rough after a while, and finally stall.

thx

Yeah, that's the one I saw- but just the end part. They used a small ice pick to make a small hole.

I remember they did that on the episode of Top Gear when they all had to drive a Porsche that cost less than 1500 across the country. I guess one of them had a radiator leak.

Must have been a 924 or 944 cause 911s, 912s and 914s are air cooled, and the 928s go for a bit more than $1500. :)

I realize that this is for an emergency/temporary repair, but what are the consequences introducing egg whites or pepper to the inner workings of the cooling system? If those consequences involve water pump distress or clogged cooling passages, wouldn't it be better to wait for a real repair or go for the more external fixes like the bubble gum patch jammed on the outside or the crimping of the leaking tube?
