And there's another one ealier last year, but I couldn't find it.

IMO, you're on your own as far as rachets, sockets, and spanners go; that's a topic in itself. You can fill up your car with tools & spares, and even engine parts! But there are certain things to carry that can take care of the more common problems. Are you watching BULL RUN? The new TransAm broke a trans hose & the guy fixed it with a hose clamp right there on the side to finish the day!

You're more likely to get a flat or see a stranded motorist than need to change the alternator or water pump on the road. that's what your AutoClub card should be used for. Do your best to make sure the major mechanicals are up to the trip before you leave, and you won't have to drink your spare water while you wait for the towtruck.

I can just about take my whole Z apart with the tools I routinely carry. I always take along water bottles and my glovebox has an entire assortment of maps. I have AAA Plus. The fuel pump I use to supply my triples works fine until it gets coated with methanol/ethanol. I have a spare. My alternator is a GM 100amp one wire so I'm not expecting any problems from that end. Every bearing save the left rear wheel has been replaced in the last 3 yrs. U-joints have less than 1,000 miles on them. My laptop has wireless built in.

That said, I drive my hard and I expect things to wear out accordingly. Nor will I be travelling alone to and from the Dragon as we have about 8 Zs coming down from the New England club for this event. Worst case I can hitch a ride on one of the two trailers that will be part of the caravan.

Can't say enough bout my Favorite mag,

I read a STACK of these on a 3 day long Amtrak trip last year and I can't say how many times It's saved me at the laundry mat.

At 5 bucks a pop you can't knock.

No cussing and useless info like some mags. Just Hardcore straight to the point race stuff to help drop some E.T.s

The feature cars are AWESOME with everything from Time Attack to Autocross and even to Backyard Racers :classic:

Very informative tech articles that breaks down the components and what makes them tick so you can make informed decissions on parts you buy. They even have a monthly segment on Turbo Chargers where they highlight a different one every month and give out the pros and cons of each, i.e. Horsepower and Spool times.

Even if a Company advertises in their mag if the parts don't work they'll let us know not to buy it.

Driving Tips, Auto Styling, Suspension set up techniques, Race prep and all that.

Hit up the Grocery Store mag rack or tag a Barnes and Nobles.

You won't be dissapointed as all the info in every feature can be applied to any car..... Like a Z :cheeky:

G'Day All

I have been quietly chuckling away here about the amount of stuff you guys are prepared to carry in your Z cars for a modest trip. Here in Aus it is not unusual to travel 500+km (300 miles) one way for a dinner, concert, social function etc. Admittedly not in the Z car .....but!!

I imagine that taking all that gear will leave little room for you or your clothes etc. I don't take as much stuff when I go on trips through the centre of Australia, across remote deserts, say for 8 or 10,000km (5 or 6,000 miles).

I mean no offense, I just find it funny!!

Good luck with your trip. My Z is going nowhere as it is stuck in the garage waiting for parts!!

That'a why I keep the list of stuff I have short enough so it will all fit into a small tub or sak. The Z only goes for a long drive ( more than 100miles) only about once a year or less, so I can make sure it's all working, safe, and reliable.

For the spare tire issue, I heartily recommend this stuff!

It's available at any bigbox store, automotive based or not, and is a great backup to carry at all times.

As was mentioned in passing before, a list of contact numbers would be ideal-if you were to post your basic itinerary/route then those of us in the neighborhood could pm you our contact info, just in case.

Hey - I drive 300 miles to go fishing, race my other Z or see relatives all the time. I drive on an average over 20,000 miles a year these last 10 years but did over 35,000/yr the 30 yrs before that. I've done several 1,000+ mile trips in this and my other 240Z. I was museing out load....

Heck, I'd drive my Toyota FJ40 with 36 inch tires 300 miles one way to get to a good fishing hole. It had a 350 and snorkel kit with boat tucked up over the rollcage.

I know exactly what your saying. My good friend drives his '69 VW halfway across canada a couple times each year, and usually only carries simple tools and a spare tire. I guess when dont drive these cars regularly for long distances, you get a bit paranoid when you finally do. I guess though, they wont be the ones stuck on the side of the road praying that they can get their car going again....
