October 31, 200816 yr Author comment_264958 Agreed......A good bodyman is almost impossible to find (one that doesn't cut corners). This type of resto is very expensive.......You can find people that do decent work for 1/4 of what this will cost. You've got to have the disease, and I've had it since my first 240Z......and it's only getting worse! November 5, 200816 yr Author comment_265455 Dustin....Start with the simple things that you can do.......Start at the front and work back. Remove, clean and replace every item you can. Also get some Z books from Motorsport....they have them all. Good Luck! January 16, 200916 yr comment_271282 Here are a few more pics the body guy sent. The car is wrapping up. The engine bay and door jams should have paint within a few weeks. All the car needs now is an original dogleg for the passenger side. Note the body gaps. This guy is truly a perfectionist. He even drilled out the spot welds on the master cylinder access door latch. I assume it didn't line up perfect after the gapping was done. So he will move it slightly. The guy is an artist. March 17, 200916 yr Author comment_277799 Chuck has too many wrecked 911's in his shop (he does my car when he's slack) They're working on the details now.....headlight buckets, front valance and corner pieces. We gave him a passenger side dogleg from an AZ car that he's getting ready to weld in. The seats just went to an A+ upholstery guy. New OEM type seat covers, new foam inserts and strapping and new door panels. Will post pics when we have something of interest. Believe me......I'm getting ansty! March 30, 200916 yr comment_279261 Some more photos of my dads resto for your viewing pleasure. Sorry for the quality of some of these (cell phone). The shutter on my rebel xt died. A new Canon 40D will be the replacement within a week so all new photos will be even better You can see the car is in primer and Chuck is cutting out the old dogleg to replace with the one from Arizona. The detail shows the inside of the new/used part after the spot welds were removed to separate the inner/outer <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/3399890856/" title="0330091543 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3575/3399890856_397d164559_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="0330091543" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/3399890734/" title="0330091543a by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3456/3399890734_3f5af46a80_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="0330091543a" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/3399890584/" title="0330091543b by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3590/3399890584_0ed9ba686e_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="0330091543b" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/3399081141/" title="DSC00061 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3442/3399081141_39819aef72_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="DSC00061" /></a> Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/23968-total-restoration-project-71/?&page=8#findComment-279261 Share on other sites
April 20, 200915 yr comment_281273 Final work is being done replacing the passenger dogleg. After this she will be blocked and ready for final paint My dad and I ran into each other downtown this past Sunday and took a few photos of the two 72's. He took the last two photos of his Z with my camera. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/3460388877/" title="DSC00058 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3533/3460388877_ac345cb6c9_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="DSC00058" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/3460389233/" title="DSC00089 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3499/3460389233_d494a5be29_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="DSC00089" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/3456469160/" title="IMG_0451 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3662/3456469160_313b834032_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_0451" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/3455608871/" title="IMG_0447 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3571/3455608871_6d0a5834b5_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_0447" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/3456467664/" title="IMG_0449 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3575/3456467664_9a25a02b94_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_0449" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/3456473206/" title="IMG_0456 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3570/3456473206_e1651b2fa6_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_0456" /></a> Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/23968-total-restoration-project-71/?&page=8#findComment-281273 Share on other sites
April 21, 200915 yr Author comment_281284 The dogleg repair by Chuck is just amazing.....he removed each piece of the good dogleg and spot welded it piece by piece onto the car.....just like new with "0" rust! The last picture of the green 72 I think is my all-time favorite picture. Chuck should be shooting paint soon, but he works at his own pace. He's a true artist! Brandon's new camera is just amazing.
