Posted April 18, 200717 yr comment_206341 Good reading (entertainment) listing on eBay.... not that bad looking, and cheap (now, but with a long time to go....) We can learn something new every day. Here I found that the dash came with an "original hard cover which so many Zs don't have". He's right, most of us don't have an original one. Someone must have trashed mine before the dealer sold it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-Series-71-DATSUN-240z-CA-CAR-EVERY-DAY-DRIVER_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6187QQihZ006QQitemZ160107541862QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/23997-1971-woriginal-hard-cover-for-dash/ Share on other sites

April 18, 200717 yr comment_206426 How long is that tailpipe? It must stick out 12" past the back of the car. It does appear to have lots of Bondo too. April 18, 200717 yr comment_206435 As I was looking at the photos i was saying it was a shame it doesn't have any bumpers (looking for the good parts) and as I scrolled down I saw the photo of them ... man those are messed up ... I don't think I could get a drunk and angry ape to make a set more banged up! Also, ... is that tow-hitch mounted to anything structural? or just the back end which IIRC is just sheet metal ... hard to tell from the photos where it ties in ... April 19, 200717 yr comment_206544 Normally I try to not pick on the cars presented in these ebay ads, but this one needs to have some flaws/issues pointed out. April 21, 200717 yr comment_206791 Yeah, David, it looks like they drove the Z away from the emissions place and forgot to disconnect the hose! :knockedou Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/23997-1971-woriginal-hard-cover-for-dash/#findComment-206791 Share on other sites
April 21, 200717 yr Author comment_206794 Well, when it was down around $300.00, it wasn't such a bad deal. The defects are obvious, and now it's at $1K.... somewhat beyond what I'd pay now. And if that car is daily driver, his insurance company should be notified! Missing lug nuts worry me. I almost got killed one night by a flying wheel! The sucker flew right off an MGB and hit the bar I was going in to - missed my head by about a foot. Seems the guy rebuilt the front end a week before and reversed the hubs where the knock-offs secure the wheel. He threw on his brakes and there was an awful racket and spark show. I was looking at that when the tire & wheel went by! I had an extra drink or two that evening - probably should have turned around and gone to a church instead. April 22, 200717 yr comment_206879 I had that same toe bar installed by the original owner of my 240Z. Damn silly. Besides the obvious holes, the forward mount comes into the spare tire wheel well and did some mild bending. The rear holes go through one of square-ish unibody reinforced areas just below the rear deck flooring in the back of the Z. Mine has no obvious warpage there (yeah!) but the bumper was a loss. That toe bar weighs about 35 lbs and went into my trash can. If it was valuable, I wouldn't sell it to you  Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/23997-1971-woriginal-hard-cover-for-dash/#findComment-206879 Share on other sites
