Choke Warning Light not going out...

My choke warning light is not going out. Anytime I have the keys in the ignition and turn it to the first click and after start up the light says on. Sometimes when I turn the headlights on it will go off... but not always. It's a 73. Anyone have any ideas? Where is the sensor for the choke warning light at anyway?

I actually removed the center console last night and there are no wires or switches coming from the choke cable area. Is it possible that the previous owner cut them out or removed them? Any idea where they connect up? If that's the case I guess I could just disconnect it. There's no chance that the "choke warning light" could be a general fault indicator is there? Like if there's a short or problem in the system it would cut on. I looked at the wiring diagram and I dont' even see a section for a switch or light.

Hmmm, that's odd. Your 73 should be like mine unless you have a 260Z not a 240. If its a 260 I don't know for sure. But the 240Z choke light switch on a 73 is right at the choke lever under the console. The lever comes straight up from the pivot bolt, makes a 90 degree turn for a little ways then goes straight up again. The horizontal section of the lever is what contacts the switch.

My car's switch has a pigtail that heads towards the fuse box and connects to the main harness under the heater controls.

Chris, thanks for your input. My guess is that the previous owner has removed the switch. I don't see anything like it anyhere. He may have disconnected it and then just threw the switch up in the dash. If that is the case I really don't need the choke light. Any harm in just disconnecting it? Oh, I do remember one thing. Before I cleaned my combo switches whenever I would hit a bump or use my blinkers all my dash lights would go out and the choke light would come on. Now all my combo switches work great but the choke light won't go out. Don't know if that helps anyone....

The choke light switch is the only thing firing the lamp. Unless the PO did something weird. Or threw it up in the center of the dash and its suddenly come to life.

Maybe one of our other members can throw up a picture of it to help you find it. I can't find a picture of the switch anywhere.

Try putting your seat belt on. The PO may of switched the location of the bulbs. I too have a 73. If you do not have the switch under the console there is no way that you should be getting power to the light, unless the light is coming from another source.

I never thought about the switch being swapped for the seat belt light, but I doubt it. My thought is he either cut the switch out or unhooked it from the choke and just stuffed it somewhere. It would be being pressed by something in the days.

Look at the bottom side of your console. The Choke Lever controls should be attached to the bottom of the console.

Look at the housing surrounding the Choke Lever, you should see a spot about half way up the top with a couple of tapped screws that would allow a micro-switch to mount right in line with the Choke Lever. This is where the switch mounts. If the switch is NOT there, then you'll just have an empty pair of holes.

If on the other hand, the wiring for the switch is routed on the underside of the center console and it's connector is way up by the fuse box, and all you did was lift up on the tail end of the console, that might explain why you did not see the wiring the first time around.

Then, if as you mention the IPO just "chucked" the switch up into the fuse box area, since the switch is a NC style switch, AND it requires pressure on it's button to turn off (open) then you DO need to find it in order to disconnect the SWITCH and not just the bulb.
