Maybe there was nothing on it, but that seems odd, although I can't find anything to connect it to. Its just above the battery on the engine side of the harness. 4 prongs.

I've got a 1970 240z and that looks like the connector to the windshield wiper motor harness which passes through the firewall directly above the upper heater hose.

nope, my ww harness is a 6 pin connector, and its connected.

yep, the passenger side, about 8inches below the connection for the wipers.

The previous thread was about two wires that come through the firewall in that vicinity and go down to the automatic transmission. Because of the length required to reach the transmission they are long enough to reach the brake booster/wiper motor on the driver's side if someone chose to route them that way after swapping to a manual transmission.

My '72 does not have that connector. The dirt on it makes it appear to have been hooked up at some point.

Clean off the wires so you can see the colors and post them here.

It seems as though there is one Black, a Black/White and a Green, but this is simply by enlarging the screen and it could be wrong.

From those colors, my WAG is the Thermo Relay for an Automatic Transmission which was used to power the secondary points in the distributor.

There is a possibility that the wire goes inside the car, and not on the engine side, but I don't think so, as the engine bay was touched up in that area with some kind of thick black paint, which appears on the connector.

Its a 73 4spd, btw, and I can't find anything on the diagram that it could be.

None of my '71s have or had that connector, not in that location anyway. Not even the (formerly) automatic car. I'll try to remember to look over my spare wiring harness this evening.
