Replating Hardware

Paul - This doesn't answer your question but is something I've thought about, and is loosely related. A few decades ago we had a local chrome plater who specialized in parts common to the Big Three. Bumpers, guards, grills, bezels, etc. and were plated on an exchange basis. They most often had what I needed and would give me a price dependent on what I gave them as a trade/core. They usually had extra and would often sell parts outright without a trade. I know there are many of us, who have extra "everything" as far as parts to be zinc coated. Most of it is not worth saving just in case it's needed, or selling, mostly because of the high cost of shipping. It could be a win-win enterprise if someone connected to a good plater started an outfit like that today. There probably have been some that have thought of it but just don't have the nessesary parts to start up. I for one would give up what I had in exchange for plating services. Just a thought, and sorry for the thread wrangling.

Hey, Thanks for the input everyone. I was able to find a local company that I will stop by next week and see what they can offer. I am still knee deep in body repair but am getting closer to having it done. They only coatings I deal with are powder coat and aluminum hardcoat. I like the gold cadmium look on brackets, body nuts & bolts, door hardware..etc but have never used it before. Here in NASCAR country we have many shops that offer different special coatings but not cadmium. I will let you know what I find.
