Castrol 10W-30!

What oil are you currently using? Keep using it and don't switch.

$.02

Chris A.

My thoughts exactly!

The oil question will typically get as many different opinons as post replies... but in the case my take is identical to Chris's.

So, I took your guys advice. Drained the oil, put a new filter on and took it out for a spin. I don't know what happend but the engine won't turn over anymore. when I turn the key I just hear clicking.

I would suggest using a higher viscosity oil like 20W-50 since it's an older engine. If you can afford synthetic, even better. But for those of us that don't want to pay more than $20 for changing their own oil I would stick with Castrol, Valvoline, and even Quaker State to save a couple bucks. I use a Bosch oli filter. However, I'm not sure if it's any better than your typical Fram filter.

Yeah, another great thing is to drive the car without the cap screwed onto the can cover. Did that once. hehehehe. j/k.

As long as you're using a premium brand oil, I'd focus more on the filter. Here's a website that did some interesting experimenting with various filters.

It's been around for a while, so I don't know if the current filters on your store's shelf are the same as in this test.

Before reading this I used the Fran Extra Guard mainly because it was reasonably priced, readily available, and made by a reputable brand. But after reading this, I decided to move to the Tough Guard. I usually don't see much value in the "intermediate" sub-brands, but in this case, I think it makes sense to pay a little extra.
