May 6, 200717 yr Author comment_208636 Welcome to the site and congrats on the Z . Be aware that primer is porous and will allow moisture to penetrate to the metal . So if the primer is over paint that will be a moisture barrier , however if the paint was sanded off or removed , you want to address this as soon as you can. The same for Bondo . All the best to you and enjoy your new ride. Gary:rambo:Thanks Gary, I'll be sanding and painting as soon as I can. The car does have rust...(under the battery, in the hatch, over the rear lights) but I'm not sure how much yet. I've peeled back the carpet inside and that doesn't look too bad. I'm looking for a good body shop in the area here to address the major rust first. I teach for a living so the shop will also have to be somewhat affordable. I know there is a local club here, just gotta find em and see what they recommend.Jacob Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/24186-howdi/?&page=2#findComment-208636 Share on other sites

Note that you're actually going to need to pull up the tar mats under the carpet to accurately assess the condition of the floors.
