IF you got the money and time I would go for it.

They are the most expensive to work on. There is no work space under the hood anywhere, plus the engine bay is just an embarrassment to look at.

Though, they do have the same motor as the 90's 300zx. Stock can take a lot of punishment and power. The stock turbo pushes 6.8psi, and has a internal blow off valve that limits the turbo to 8psi. Though it can easily be by-passed and its peak efficiency is 15psi. All you need is a intercooler, and a few other minor mods to get them pumping some serious numbers.

Though expect a lot of money, time, blood and a bunch of cursing.

I myself was going to invest in a 80's 300zx but after doing a bunch of research, I am going to wait until I have like $20,000 to throw away.

Use your money on a 240/280 and do a motor swap instead or something.

btw, the 84-86 have the larger turbo, and the 87-89 have a smaller turbo. The smaller turbo spools much faster as it is a bit smaller, but can't push near the power as the older 300zx's.

as you said.. CHEAP, because they ARE cheap:rolleyes:

I gladly WAS a Z32 owner, ok, to be fair, it is a fast car, stable, sounds great when you hit the gas.. but when we come to lets say "thermostat replacement" here the fun begins, remove the upper hose, lower one, if you want to work happy REMOVE THE RADIATOR:dead: and the "flanges" what the hell is wrong with nissan!?LOL

and if you say it is a Z31, ok fine, maybe less hoses but it is funny to see a Z acting like a corvette C4 having an inclined radiatorROFL

spare parts, chcek the catalogs of spare parts, you might notice that you can find stuff for an S30 easier than finding them for a 300ZX!

and make sure that you WILL NOT get more cash when you sell it, even if you did so, make sure that you spent much more on the car so you end up fairly in minus:tapemouth

man, get a rusty S30 and fix it, this worth much more..

I used the 300ZX, I loved it, but at the end.. I HATE IT!

that's why they are cheap.

280 guys end up loving them and feeling sorry for selling them! this is a real point to consider..

besides, there is too much plastic in the 300!

take your money and complete your 240Z..

"you welcome":rambo:

i owned this one. an 88 SS that i found in California and drove back to Arkansas. very fast car for stock, and i loved it. only problem with it, was no back seat for our youngest son, still at home, so we sold it. stay away from the digital dash and automatic climate controlled 300 zx offered in the 86-89 models. those are very expensive to work on, especially if you have to pay someone to do it.
