Are all three bushings there and in good shape? The two that the pin goes through to hold the shifter in place and the one on the bottom of it?

My 73 has an early 5spd and it doesn't look like any cutting was done from below. I can shift into all the gears just fine. As Will said, I'm pretty sure this is only an issue on the earlier years (70/71). I plan to swap that out for an 83 ZX tranny shortly and don't expect to do any cutting with that based on the research I've done online.

If you need them the part numbers are 32855-H1010 for number 25 and you need two and 32861-N4200 for number 27.

I wasn't sure if you mean the trans has no reverse when you shift into it or if it pops out of reverse when you shift into it. If the bottom bushing is not there or in bad shape it could keep you from getting the trans completely shifted into reverse in which case it won't stay there when you apply power. If that's the case then new bushings are worth a try. Costs less than a trans.

thank you thank you!

but heres what i found out so far

Ok heres my dilemma, my reverse does jammed and pop outta gear..but heres the thing..i shift it in second gear then to reverse, and it works! but it wants to slip out to neutral, ..umm i dont know what to do

so i might have to try the bushings, and change the trannny oil,, and see what happens.

Try the bushings first. If that doesn't work and you still have the original R180 3.36:1 diff and plan on keeping it, find a working 75-78 tranny and swap it out. If on the other hand you plan on changing to a later R200 diff, find an 81- 83 5spd donor and grab the R200 3.90:1 diff and tranny as a set.
