Who will be at the Datsun Driving Canby Fun event?

Recommended Posts

I was curious how many of you have registered (who live in the northwest) their car in the Datsun Driving Canby fun event? The reason I ask is because the registration ends May 10th. My dad and I are hoping we can do it this year. We learned about it from the Golden Gardens meet from a friendly 240z owner. Any how, if we can't make it this year we'll for sure make it next year and would love to see some of you guys and your cars who live in the Northwest!:)

Haven't registered yet. Not sure if I will or not. Seems to be so hard and fast, rules wise, it just turns me off. Thinking I may pass and do the Blue Lake thing instead. I would probably show to view the scenery tho. The show 2 years ago was really laid back. Not that the visiting and seeing old friends isn't still good, but the lawyers have taken over.

My wife and I will probably be there on Sunday, but not registered for the show, just to look and visit.

On the other hand, I could re-install my 1971-dated plug wires, Koito headlights, and put a set of narrow tires on the steel wheels and D hubcaps...

Or not.

I am planning to go. But not entered to be judged. Might just go to visit and see the people I like to visit with. With what they are asking for registration now and not allowing you to register at the gate ? Blue lake seems like a more laid back event . They want to make the Camby show the hi-light Z event of the state, but ?? I don't do politics vary well. It sure would be great to meet every one that can make it. We, that is a group of us , settled in on what we referred to as the riff-raff area. And we had a great time of it, and enjoyed the show. I go to these shows to have a good time and a few laughs . If this is open to everyone again then I would be interested. If not then ...... blue lake is the option. Just a note: nwcubsman's Z has taken best in show in the near past . I kid him some times but the z is vary fine . Gary:laugh:

Ditto on the not willing to dump $30, 30 days in advance for a show that is a bit "uptight" about signing responsibility waivers. Anyone living in the PAC-NW knows that the weather is just a bit too unpredictable this time of year to make such concrete plans. Add that there are no Day Of registrations and it just shows they're trying to exclude those who don't trailer their car down (i.e. drivers).

Blue Lake in August, or even the Beaches Cruise-Ins (weekly on Weds @ PIR) are by far MORE fun and MORE of a "deal". I'll get better info on Blue Lake and post it.

Anyone that knows anybody on the Datsuns NW club, you might clue them in that if their intent is to EXCLUDE other clubs, then all they need to do is NOT advertise the show.

Purportedly, the intent is to "define" the classes of vehicles registered in order to have trophies for each class. The problem is that intent is one thing, and the public's perception may not be so benevolent.

That's interesting, I didn't know anyhing about some of that stuff.

Would love to hear more about these events and where they are!

I could have predicted that this thread would turn this way. Canby seems to be a sore point up here in the PacNW.

Here's my take on this. I'm still a a bit new to the Datsun scene, although I've been into cars for over thirty years. I've never been one to join clubs though, so perhaps I can address this without bias.

Get a group of enthusiasts together, and they create a club. The bigger the club gets, the more it takes to keep things organized. Get it big enough, and you start getting factions and cliques. Eventually some split off because some group and the parent club can't see eye to eye. This is normal, and not limited to clubs, but happens in lots of different groups of humans -- churches, governments, clubs, businesses, etc. Not surprisingly, I'm told that this has happened in the Datsun scene up here. (Or so I'm told, it happened before my time.)

As far as the Canby show goes, I can certainly understand why they want advance registration. Planning an event like this takes time and effort. Add in the judging and trophies part, and try to plan where you are going to put everyone in a limited area, and logistically you need to have some idea ahead of time as to who is coming, how many of what model car will be there, etc., etc.

Again, this doesn't bother me too much, as in addition to not being much of a "club" person, I've never been all that interested in having my cars "judged" or in winning trophies. Just don't care. I like to fix, maintain and drive my cars - that's what turns my nut. I go to shows to see other people's cars, and meet and visit friends. Luckily for me, there is no shortage of other people who DO like to have their cars judged, who DO have interest in trophies. If it wasn't for them, there'd be no other cars for me to look at.

I will attend Canby, as it is close by, and there's bound to be some fun stuff to see. Don't expect to see my car in the judged area, as that's not my thing. Several people have said that they prefer a more laid back show attitude, and that's OK too. Because that's how I'll approach Canby - laid back. If others want to get wound up, go for it.

Once again Arne nailed it. There will be many other cars there other than Zs. 5 10s ,1200s, roadsters . race cars lots of stuff as well as modified Zs , and OEM. There will be lots to look at. There is camping available and a swap meet. This is a three day event. I can see as Arne stated the need for early registration. I am not entering my Z to be judged but would like to park on the grounds like we were able to last year and show our cars. Since I am not entering to be judged I wont Pay the $30.00 just to park on the grounds and do it in advance . So then I will just park across the street and walk in . Gary:tapemouth nuff said

And again, Arne and Gary nailed it for me on this one...

As I see it , I will go to the show (doglegs in v-fib and all) and take in what I can and meet up with a few Z cronies that I have met along this journey.

For me it's about a group of people sharing a common interest.
