I'm in the process of replacing the head and adding a head to my car and was wondering what the best replacement for the studs is. I'm not concerned with originality, mostly durability compared to the stock studs.

anyone?

Quite some time ago as a way to make up for a mistake, MSA threw in a set of manifold studs and nuts. They were good quality and even though I've had the manifolds on and off a few times since, have held up well. They aren't too expensive IIRC, and I think are plated to look like new.

Keep in mind, these are separate studs to which you attach the washer and nut. It makes installing the header and intake manifold easier, but the initial installation is tedious to get the old studs out and the new ones in.

You might also try Fastenal. They just opened a store near me and the guy there said that they can get virtually every kind of bolt, stud, nut, washer, etc. He said if it wasn't in the store that it's in the catalog.

this was posted by someone on hybridz a while back.

"for what is worth the ford 5.4 exhaust studs work, they are 8mm, that is what i used for my 4 barrel swap, the part # is -w703902-s403 for what appears to be copper or -n811313-s431 for just regular metal studs and if i remember correctly they are a little longer than the stock nissan studs"

I bought the regular metal studs, I think they were about $1.50 each at the local ford dealer.
