It looks like a 240 shell but what's with the 260 style brake lenses? Was this a feature of any of the BRE 240Zs?

The Seller didn't list the original VIN - so who knows what he did? Could have been an early 260Z shell - maybe he has a set of 260Z tail lights sitting around...

The Newman/Sharp 280 is a 240 shell w/280 rear lights. Don't know why this car is the way it is, however.

IMSA and SCCA sometimes require an external update to a classed vehicle so it appears more contemporary. The Frissell 260Z is actually a 240Z updated with 260Z exterior parts. Sometimes competitors do an extrnal upgrade so they can run a larger displacement engines at the upgraded vehicle's weight.

I agree with Carl Beck's suggestion that the seller probably used a spare set of tail lights. The VARAC G70 rules read "the vehicle must be in as near to original condition as possible"...and given the scarcity of these cars at events up here, I doubt they would have issue with a set of tail lights.

I thought the 240z tail lights could not be swapped with the later tail lights.... Is the entire rear panel swapped... or just the lights??

.... and back in the day.... sometimes the Z's were "updated" in appearance because of Factory Contingency Money or outright sponsorships... to promote whatever model was "currently" being sold at the Dealerships...

All of which makes it very hard to track the progression of historic cars with photographs from different periods...
