Posted May 7, 200717 yr comment_208647 Sure I want one, but this person really wanted one. I guess I'm back to square one. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130106623181&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fmotors.search.ebay.com%3A80%2F%3Ffrom%3DR40%26satitle%3D130106623181%26fvi%3D1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/24244-bsr-valvecover-on-ebay-wowzers/ Share on other sites

May 7, 200717 yr comment_208655 That's incredible! At first I thought that was a starting bid and the seller was crazy, but damned look at the number of bids! May 7, 200717 yr comment_208661 That much money for a valve cover-I 'd have to say the guy is either a ricer(cosmetic part only) or seriously into Z history(significant becuase of what it is and what it represents). I bet he's a member-ricers want new and gaudy, not old and nostalic. Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/24244-bsr-valvecover-on-ebay-wowzers/#findComment-208661 Share on other sites
May 7, 200717 yr comment_208685 Really there were only 8 bidders and it appears as though a bidding war broke out between 2 of them with a third bidder throwing fuel on the fire. Too bad we don't have a clue to who was bidding. I hate that about eBay these days. As Will pointed out, we can't even tell if it went to a good home or if it stayed in the country for that matter. The selling price is way too much.Rest assured, everyone, that as an expert (and I'm certain the commander will back me up on this) I can tell you all with complete confidence that the valve cover is an aftermarket item. Furthermore, it is used. But what great entertainment! May 7, 200717 yr Author comment_208688 Bidding on it for me got knocked off around the $500 point. I know it's aftermarket but there aren't that many out there and it is a unique little piece to have. I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled on EBay. May 7, 200717 yr comment_208689 I wouldn't have even paid $500 for it. That's the kind of thing that you just have to luck up on in the junkyard. That's how I found my '2400' valve cover and a JDM 'NISSAN' valve cover among other things. To the junkyards, they're just valve covers. Ten bucks or less. I sold the JDM cover to a kid for $100 bucks a couple of years ago without even cleaning it up. Over $2k, that's just ridiculous! May 7, 200717 yr comment_208690 Winning bidder has a history of classic Datsun buys. Looks as though he's a collector in the US. I think it's in good hands. May 7, 200717 yr comment_208697 I just checked my pics of the 240/280 Sharp/Newman car and it doesn't have that valve cover on it. I'll have to ask if it ever did. May 7, 200717 yr Author comment_208703 These things were $120 new out of the BSR catalog who knows how long ago. You probably could make a profit if you were able to recast them and sell them for $300-$500 apiece depending on how many you made.
