hmsports Posted July 28, 2002 Share #2 Posted July 28, 2002 I used some sand paper to knock of the majority of it - at least the foam. I didn't do anything else after that because I wasn't restoring mine. Try it on a corner to see if it will work for you.Don't forget to wear some googles. carguyinok Posted July 29, 2002 Author Share #4 Posted July 29, 2002 I went & used my drill with A wire wheel brush. It made fast work of the foam that was left. Now I have lil foam balls all over my floor n there a real pain too sweep up. :stupid: This did not do anything with the glue. I am going too try the sandpaper tomorrow after work. EScanlon Posted July 29, 2002 Share #5 Posted July 29, 2002 You might try good old lacquer thinner on a rag. Dampen the rag and wipe the larger clumps. Note that this WILL dissolve the glue, and if you work quickly you will get it off, if you work slowly, all you will succeed in doing is moving it from one spot to the next. You might also try either mineral spirits, or 3M Adhesive Remover. Mineral spirits may take a lot of elbow grease and the 3M stuff might be not only spendy but also hard to find.If all else fails, Acetone. This evaporates REAL fast, and you will have to work very very quickly, but it will also remove the glue.NOTE: USE EYE PROTECTION AND A BREATHING MASK. The fumes from these can literally light you up.Good Luck
V8-240Z Posted July 29, 2002 Share #6 Posted July 29, 2002 Any of that stuff is flammable, Better disconnect the battery or you may not be the only thing that gets lit up.

carguyinok Posted July 29, 2002 Author Share #8 Posted July 29, 2002 Thanks for taking the time. My main prob. is all the things that will remove the glue are also able & will burn skin. Not my hands ( there use ta it) but drips getting on my back, head , face and so on. :stupid: Oh. I have my driveline out so no batt. but thanks for the heads up. I have the 3M adhesive remover. Just not looking forward too doing A 3" x 3" space @ A time in order too keep dripping down. It's HOT outside & in my shop with A barn fan on shows 80.
EScanlon Posted July 29, 2002 Share #9 Posted July 29, 2002 Maybe you misunderstood what I meant by dampen, I meant get the rag ...moist, but NOT dripping with thinner. The reason for the eye protection is that you may knock off a bit of the glue either before or after you hit it with the rag with thinner and in either case it doesn't belong in your eye.Now the thinner will also evaporate, but you can continue wetting, wiping, and little by little you'll get it done. carguyinok Posted July 29, 2002 Author Share #10 Posted July 29, 2002 No I understood. I was trying that but it was turning into A gum after awhile then drips:cry: So I have used my 3M remover in small spot's then cleaned it and moved on. It seem too be working well. But it's way too hot out there ta deal with it now. Thanks again.
72zcar Posted July 29, 2002 Share #11 Posted July 29, 2002 The pic of the inside of the roof looks a little like a shot of the earth from the space shuttle... does this help:tapemouth
EScanlon Posted July 30, 2002 Share #12 Posted July 30, 2002 Know what you mean. In warm weather the thinner evaporates almost as fast as Gatorade goes down.I know that it is a big chore, but the advantage of removing all that glue is that when you apply the new glue and then apply the headliner you won't have any lumps.Good Luck
