Posted May 14, 200717 yr comment_209479 I don't know. What do you all think should I put them on or not? They are polished aluminum. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/24324-mud-guards-yes-or-no/ Share on other sites

May 14, 200717 yr comment_209485 After looking at the paint damage done to my rocker panels and lower fenders after 30+ years of use and abuse I'm considering this as well. I really don't like them all that much but what other options are there? I do like the chrome ones better than the back ones I have seen. I'm torn at this point. May 14, 200717 yr comment_209487 I vote No as well, but if you like them thats all that matters.I think your car looks too good to add those. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/24324-mud-guards-yes-or-no/#findComment-209487 Share on other sites
May 14, 200717 yr comment_209488 Why not go to a good auto paint supplier and get some of that clear adhesive backed laminate used by many new car manufacturers made for the purpose of a rock guard. It is probably made in different mil weights depending on application. I wish I could be more specific as to suppliers or part numbers, but that would be my first choice over the mud guards. Maybe they were added late in the car's life, but they didn't seem to prevent any paint damage down there - my car has plenty. So I removed them, and I prefer the look of the car without. May 14, 200717 yr comment_209491 I think they serve a purpose if they are large enough, but the silver realy stands out too much - plain black would be less noticable and look fine on a red or orange Z. Just an opinion - I am thinking about it for mine as well. May 14, 200717 yr comment_209492 Only becuase you asked...Polished, pretty, but-no, flat black, maybe! It would not draw as much contrast from the bodyline if it blended with the tire, and then it wouldn't alter that flawless appearance you have! Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/24324-mud-guards-yes-or-no/#findComment-209492 Share on other sites
May 14, 200717 yr comment_209495 My vote is no too. To me, they kind of look like something you'd see on a rally car, but if you like the way they look, then that's what matters. They didn't appear to stick out far or low enough to do any good anyway. Anyone know how that bumpy protective surface is applied on the rocker panels of newer cars. Is it painted on or is it an appliqué of some sort? And lastly, is it done before or after the car is painted?
