70-72 to 73 rear bumper question

i have a 73, and i took my rear bumper to be chromed. well after blasting the inside, and stipping, there isnt much left of the center section. so my question is, will a 70-72 center section work with my 73 end pieces that i already have chromed? im not using any of the rubber strips or the "bumperettes" (the u-shaped pieces).
