Racer Parts Wholesale has K&N crankcase vents - they are $13.99 and come in sizes to fit 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4" and 1" vents. Call them at 800-397-7815. They are 2" O.D., 1-1/2" High.

And yes, the fumes are supposed to go into the air filter box -- for emission control purposes.

Hey what does this thing do?

I am not currently running any filters, and am not concerned about it. I would from time to time run them on my previous zcar. I do not run the car in a dusty environment and would agree that the engine life might suffer some. But I managed over 300,00 miles on my last car and sold it running strong. I can live with a failure after that many miles. Gives me a chance to rebuild and add some more performance parts. But if I ran in a dirty environment I would certainly run filters, probably K&N's, but any would beat none in that situation.

Si|v3r72> Instead of sending the fumes to be reburned, they are allowed to vent to the atmosphere (oh oh, here come the environmentalists). You could leave the vent line open, but you run the risk of getting dust/dirt/grit into your engine. This keeps that from happening.

smg1404> You are correct that even though you aren't running in a dusty environment, you will still get dust and dirt particles into your engine which can over time cause excessive/premature engine wear. Your engine is simply an air pump that will suck up everthing it can -- right into your cylinders and then into your oil where it gets distributed and deposited throughout your engine. IMO, I'd spend a couple of bucks on a filter to save a couple hundred/thousand on an engine rebuild.

you talked abou points of surface area i like this one because how much surface area do you think your getting at the inlet of your carbs or the inlet of your fi system it thats what your running.

big hint no more then what is allowed in the engine from the intake side of the car. so i would guess that the carb inlet being about 1.75 inches in diameter at tops is all the surface area your getting.

then your mentioning that foam may be better see carguyinok's post. foam sucks!!!. i had a 87 supra, got a hks foam filter that i paid over a 100 bucks for. guess what it took 3 weeks for that thing to get flithy and i mean filthy. wanna know something else. only took 2 months for it to fall apart and that was noticing this from the outside of the fliter

since the HKS incident i have run nothing but K and N filters on all my cars. no one that i know that runs them has ever had a problem. that is ever.

ive used them for eh bout 7 years now. i havent had one problem with them at all

Yeah.. I know I should, but it's a mater of priority. I plan to rebuild long before this baby blows apart any way. And I would much rather spend my money on more toys. The filters will cost about 100.00, and I can apply that to fun parts. My long term is to build a punched out 280 block. Still debating if I want to use a 280 crank or a 240 crank. I like the way the shorter stroke runs. But any way there is another engine in my future. I hope. Funds dependant you know.
