BRE-240Z Posted October 24, 2007 Share #37 Posted October 24, 2007 How was the quality of the plastic pieces? I sort of got sticker shock when I looked around the web site, ended up using my plastic panels and shooting them with SEM (in Wedgewood). The color is close but not quite right. The color is close but not quite right. The pieces are in terrible shape (broken & cracked, etc). I know how hard it must be to find blue pieces in good shape. Thanks for letting me know about SEM's close match since I will probably have to paint some other colored panels to match.
jmark Posted October 24, 2007 Share #39 Posted October 24, 2007 Brian, Everything I have gotten from Les is top shelf. He has forgotten more about the 240Z than most of us will every know.
AndysPlit Posted October 24, 2007 Share #40 Posted October 24, 2007 Bob,Not 100% sure it will happen - I may try to sell off some things I have lying around on eBay, maybe my wheels and tires if I can find some junkyard steel wheels. I do sorely want to keep the Z and my wife is being totally cool about it. Unfortunately, I need to fence my property since I have 2 young children. With an acre of property, it won't be cheap. Good luck on the degree, I finished a Master's 2 years ago, the commitment needed to do that was tremendous, can't believe I actually finished! .....Could you post some pictures of the Jag? I know it's not a Z, but it did have several styling cues for the 240.
BRE-240Z Posted October 24, 2007 Share #41 Posted October 24, 2007 The pieces are in terrible shape (broken & cracked, etc). I know how hard it must be to find blue pieces in good shape. Thanks for letting me know about SEM's close match since I will probably have to paint some other colored panels to match. The blue SEM dye that I used is not perfect but pretty close (I experimented with several different dyes before settling on the Wedgewood). It's more of a baby blue than a true aqua...but my panels were really faded and/or greenish looking, so it's a tremendous improvement. The real trick is to paint your rivets, too, so that everything matches up colorwise. Once you do that, it's harder to tell that the panels are a shade lighter than they should be.It's close enough for guv'mint work, though......My back panel was really cracked and I ended up not using it. I acquired a clean black one and painted it with the SEM....you wouldn't believe that the panel was ever black, if you looked at it now. That SEM is amazing stuff. deadflo Posted October 25, 2007 Share #43 Posted October 25, 2007 I wonder if Les has blue door panels? I think MSA has repro panels, but they don't have the chrome strip.
